View Full Version : Roberts admits using 'roids...once.

Brian Roberts says he took roids once in 2003. It's beginning to become a joke how these players say they took illegal performance enhancers once or twice, before it was deemed 'banned' by MLB. They suddenly got ethical after taking a shot?

I wish one guy would come out and say "Yeah, I took them. Lots of people did. Doesn't make it right obviously and I'm sorry about that. But I wanted to be better. I wanted my team to be better and I wanted to make more money. The culture in baseball didn't really discourage it. I'm sorry but those are the reasons why".

I'd be interested in what the reaction would be if a guy said that.

And so it begins. Thanks Andy for setting the bar at 2 times. Now everyone will be judged on how many times they actually admit to using PED's and the validity of their excuse.

Was it to cure an injury?

Was it a brief lived attempt to gain a competitive advantage?

Just once I want to see one of these losers stand up and say...

:nandrolone
"**** yeah, I used it. HGH, Winstol, that one that starts with a D. Heck, sometimes I used all three on the same day. Why? Because I got freaking rich beyond my wildest dreams doing so and because nothing cools a man off after a hard day of blood doping like a bleacher bunny in a bikini. Wilt Chamberlain's got nothing on the Shaminator. I used to have a line down the hallway at my Lakeview apartment. Thank gawd for Viagra. Now get the **** away from me you peons. I'm gonna go buy me another Mercedes 600 SL and drive some more of my money to the bank..."

I know what my reaction would be: It sucks that you decided to cheat, but thanks for being honest about it...too bad it took being named in the Mitchell report to make you confess.

I really do not think, anything will come from this. I could see admitting to it, to get a lesser suspension, but since Bonds lied to a grand jury, and selig still allowed him to play, I really do not see anything happening. So why admit?

If steroids could make me better at what I do and in the process help me earn millions of dollars, I'd be jacked to the hilt.

"I only used it once...twice, etc." This is the new PC damage control answer that all these guys are gonna be using now.

It cracks me up big time that anyone would beleive this. But then again, I still keep buying the tickets, so I guess I should just shut it.

Apparently you only need to take them once or twice, so the chances of such side effects should be negligible. A couple shots of Winstrol and you're good to go.

There are probably some players who took steriods, and it still didn't help their game.

The minor leagues are always full of these. It helped them, just not enough. And the old argument of it doesn't help you make contact with a baseball is also falling out as some of the latest studies show they really help your eyesight as well (see Barry's over 40 vs under 40 stats across the board)

I would disagree, I don't know about HGH, but steroids, should speed up your hand eye coordination a little. It probably didn't have a huge impact on some. Also, a lot of people probably used both for recovery, not so much bulk. Vina, was on ESPN answering questions about his purchases, and said the HGH didn't help him cause, because he took it and ended up playing 50+ games. I think you have to take it over a period of time for the healing, I don't think it is a band-aid and you take it once and no more injury. If you are going to take this stuff, and you are making millions, would you not do it under the supervision of a doctor, I mean if your going to cheat, don't half-ass it.

Ken Caminiti and all those wrestlers dying really doesn't give you any kind of idea that steroids might not be good for you?

I have a friend who's a pharmacist on another board. He says that what people seem to be overlooking is that the PED's, along with HGH, are a controlled substance, just like Lortab and/or Oxycontin. He says that taking them without the proper prescription is a crime. No one seems to even be considering things from this perspective. Or if they have, I haven't heard about it.

Ken Caminiti died of a heart attack induced by a cocaine overdose.

...And of course I know that steroids are not good for your health.

You could buy HGH over the counter at any GNC a few years back, I believe. I think I bought one from EAS when it was on the market.

I don't over look that. That is why I am wondering why Congress, has not stepped in and if doctors are writing prescriptions, why they aren't having their licenses taken away. And if they are getting they illegally, why stings are not being set up.

It is not legal NOW (and has not been for a few years) but it was once a sports supplement just like ephedra was. It too is unavailable over the counter.

What was sold OTC is much different from the pharmaceutical doses.(Which is what these guilty players were taking) It's not even comparable. Also, it needs to be injected as it cannot be absorbed through the stomach, much like insulin.

Taking OTC HGH supplements by mouth would have no more effect than taking a protein supplement.

If you really want to be a man, step up and tell the truth. Like "Hell yes I did it, and no, I don't remember how many times....and it doesn't matter. The fact is I did it. Period." I'm so damn sick and tired of all this squirming and tittybaby boohoo-ing. You knew what you did was wrong, no matter how many damn times you did it. I'm not buying this once or twice crap for a second. "Follow your dreams, you can reach your goal - I'm living proof. Beefcake!! Beefcake!!!!"

How ironic. All these players are acting like Cartman on Weight Gain 4000...

Yeah, I reealy believe Pettitte and Roberts only did it once. And Tejada just was toting syringes of "B-12" around for no good reason. If people believe the Mitchell Report contains all the instances of Steroid and HGH use in the majors, I've got a bridge I'd like to sell em...

That's actually debatable (I say, preparing to be flamed).

I've read articles in the past where some researchers suggest proper use of steroids could prolong the human life span. It's based on the idea that we age because our hormones decrease, the not other way around. I'll try to scrounge up an article or two later.

The problem with most steroid users is that they abuse them. "Anything in moderation, nothing in excess" applys here as well.

On Roberts:

Silence is golden. These guys sound like high schoolers getting caught with cigarrettes or alcohol. "No mom, I swear. This is the first time I've ever done this."

The best part of the Roberts fake confession is it came right after the Orioles team statement blasting the Mitchell report and specifically defending Roberts. Sometimes timing is everything.

They’re launching a preemptive strike of contrition looking for a reprieve from punishment.

Apparently one of the side effects of steroid and HGH use is loss of memory. So, to paraphrase Father Guido Sarducci, if you think you only took steroids or HGH once, you probably took them all the time!

I think I have a solution to all of this. All possible defenders need to go on Maury and take a lie detector test.

They can have their spouses or significant others in the crowd. He can read off the results one by one.

Brian Roberts "You said you only stuck a needle in your ass once. The test says......" Then the families can jump around with joy or disgust.

This would be fun

Just about as believable.
