I can easily say I'll never forget Andy.

I was at the game in Arlington where he committed all those throwing errors in the same inning. It was the one of the most frustrating games I've ever been to.

However, I did catch my first ever foul ball that game off the bat of Rangers stand out Nelson Cruz.

Good luck Andy! I'm sure you'll be starting for another team soon enough.

I appreciate that he's gone.

Andy (http://www.baseball-reference.com/g/gonzaan01.shtml) gave Ron Santo (http://www.baseball-reference.com/s/santoro01.shtml) a run for his money for the title of worst position player in team history.

I'm going to say something good about him.

Umm....He went 4-4 against Tampa Bay that one game.

That's about 50% of all the hits he got, save for a HR against Kenny Rogers.

I have nothing against Gonzales. He cost the minimum and did his best. It wasn't much, but it was sheer desparation that he was up here anyway. I think he can earn a nice living (more than 90% of the populace) as an organizational minor leaguer.

Good luck, Andy.

Did he suck? Yeah. But he isn't the worst baseball player ever to play the game like a ton of people on here claim he is.

He was a mid season call up to replace a lot of injured players this year. He clearly wasn't ready or up to the task. Oh well. The Sox were done anyway.

Andy, you made us long for the likes of Chris Snopek, Greg Norton, Kevin Bell, Lorenzo Gray, Jim Morrison, Steve Lyons and Tim Hulett --- all ****ty 3rd baseman that you made look like Brooks friggin' Robinson.

Good luck in the real world.

Please look at his statline again. Also, he was 26 years old. When exactly is he going to be "ready"?

The only major league level skill he had was "being able to put on a uniform correctly."

Poor Andy. Forced to play out of position (3rd) for the harshest critics in the sports world (White Sox fans).

It was enough for us to petition Robin Ventura to come back no matter what physical shape he was in.

I remember being at the game vs the Indians in August (the Uribe walk off game) and Cleveland intentionally walked him to set up a doube play. When I realized what they were doing I said very loudly "Why walk him? It's Andy ****ing Gonzalez!! He's not gonna get a hit."

Kudos Andy.

Who could forget that? ESPN called it "quite possibly the all-time worst defensive half-inning by an individual."

Outstanding!

Andy G., former White Sox third baseman:

25 games
188 innings
15 putouts
42 attempts
9 errors
6 double plays
2.28 RF
.864 fielding percentage

Yowza!

Andy Gonzalez is still 25 for another day, and has already hit as many career homeruns as Sandy Koufax or Nolan Ryan. He stole more bases this year than Konerko and Thome combined, scored more runs than Crede, had as many RBI as Podsednick in fewer at bats, drew as many walks as Pierzynski in well under half as many at bats, and played in more games than our top two starting pitchers combined. He is easily one of the top thirty or forty men named Angel Manuel Gonzalez to ever swing a bat.

Not only that, but his appreciation thread gets moved to What's The Score. That's the ultimate insult!

I was also present in Arlington for Andy's defensive clinic. I am appreciative that I was sitting in the mezzanine level.

I can't let this thread go without mentioning this article from the Hardball Times:
http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/2007-net-win-shares-value/

The article is very interesting and speaks of the Sox quite a bit. The best part is towards the bottom. By their calculations Andy Gonzalez was our 5th worst valued player last year behind Podsednik, Crede, Hall and Contreras. The amazing part is he was only paid league minimum, which goes to show just how terrible he was last year.

Our very own GM was about as bad of a 3rd baseman as you'll find.

Watching Andy play was a lyrical experience. Well, it made me lyrically profane as I slumped in my seat after one of his errors. So I think one way to express my thoughts is in haiku:

Andy at third base
Throws the ball into the stands.
Maybe career change?
