Any chance the Sox go after Gagne? Just saw on ESPN that he declined arbitration with the red cubs. Don't know how good he was last year, maybe Coop can help?

Don't know how good he was last year? He stunk out loud! I think that there are some projects that even Coop should back away from, and this is certainly one of them. No thanks.

He'd be asking for way too much. I'd rather that money go to an outfielder. I imagine he'd want to close along with the money that goes with it. Brewers look like a good fit for the guy.

I think that Gagne is looking to be a closer again or for the chance to be a closer. With us having Bobby Jenks, we would not have the right fit for Gagne.

Gagne was so bad for Boston he almost didn't get on their postseason roster. He made a routine of giving up consecutive line drive singles all over the field. In fact, he was so far at the end of the bench that he only made an appearance in games they were up more than 5. I would keep Macdougal at his salary in the bullpen before I would throw money at Gagne.

I wouldn't be shocked if his market value drops next Thursday when the Mitchell Report gets released...

Gagne has lost it and he doesn't figure to get it back. At the price he will be asking, you can't take the risk. If he were minimum wage, yes. Otherwise, no.

A source told Yahoo! Sports' Tim Brown that Eric Gagne and the Brewers are close to a one-year deal.
Doug Melvin kept saying Derrick Turnbow was his closer, but there was good reason for not believing him. Gagne will almost surely claim the job with a strong spring, making Turnbow and David Riske setup men. Ideally, Riske would pitch the eighth in most close games.
