He COULD be, but he won't. I think the Dodgers would much rather trade Pierre.

Oh jesus. I'll bet my next 3 paychecks that we will not be trading for Kemp. He's one of their best positional prospects, if not the best. Corner OF'ers is not an immediate need for us, especially since we went and got Quentin. If the Dodgers trade him, it'll be for a top of the rotation starter, not Aardsma/Anderson/Uribe/Phillips.

These "absolutely, positively, no chance in hell" threads are really annoying and need to stop......

Yeah, the dude's pretty good, and already proven. He even hit .398 in 118 at-bats in the 3-spot last year!

.312/.344/.496 through his first 150 ML games.

Olney says they plan on moving Pierre to LF, and trading either Kemp or Ethier for a SP. He says they have their eyes on Joe Blanton.

Wouldn't they rather have Jose?

On a more serious note: Crede+Broadway? They kill 2 birds with one stone? Blanton ain't all that anyway.

Blantons pretty good. In his first 3 years starting he won 12-16-14, 2 of the years ERA under 4, no years under 194 IP 2 of them 200+. Hes pretty much Garland with a lower ERA

I dont think they will take a guy off back surgery and an average at best prospect if they can get Joe Blanton for him.

He pitches in Oakland v. the Cell, which makes a big difference. Per baseball-reference.com Blanton the past 2 years is at 98 ERA+, Garland's closer to 110.

The advantage of Blanton is that he's cheap and average. He's got 3 more years to FA (but he's arb eligible so he starts getting more expensive). Broadway's unproven, but younger/cheaper, and I think he'll be a solid back-end guy.

Another lesser option would be Ethier. Not the stud that Kemp is, but a good young (and cheap) player. Crede for Ethier would free up some cash and add another young talent to the system. A bit duplicative with Quentin and I'm not sure either can play CF, but maybe that lets you package Ethier/Quentin+??? for a better player.

FWLIW, rotoworld is speculating that the Rays might try to trade a Dan Wheeler type reliever for Ethier (although why they'd want to add a young OF is beyond me, they just cleared up a logjam there). They continue that that's likely too little, but if it's even in the ballpark, maybe a Crede+MacDougal type trade might work?
