Found this pretty interesting....
http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/29431

It is believed the Marlins (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/60) may have insisted the Tigers (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/38) take on both their arbitration-eligible players, Willis and third baseman Miguel Cabrera (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/3709). The Tigers (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/38) acquired both players knowing they couldn't afford both, and may be looking to replenish their farm system by flipping Willis. - per the New York Daily News

That's why we lost out on Cabrera more than anything. They insisted that we take Willis...

The Mets will take their shot at Santana, if that doesn't work, they will go for Willis. The Fish didn't want to trade him to a division rival, but the Tigers have no problem dealing him to the Mets.

Yeah, we don't have room for a starter pitcher.

Oh, wait...

There is a difference between being willing to trade Willis and needing to trade Willis. Tigers seem to need to trade Willis.

Oh, wait...

we didn't have the prospects to trade for both. I don't know that I would have liked to make that trade. Granted he was Rookie of the year, lefty, innings eater etc. but his ERA was above 5 last year and he's an NL pitcher going to the AL which traditionally doesn't work out too well....

If true, expect the Cubs to try and get him.

Unless Willis improves greatly from where he was last year I expect him to have a tough year in the AL.

I wonder if they'd be willing to keep willis and trade Miguel?

I read where that ship has sailed. They have their fans fired up about Willis and Cabrera, trading Willis for prospects would not be good.

Would rather have the Sox face Willis than Miller! Plus, I am sure Ozzie knows how Willis tips his pitches.

Ozzie was recently quoted saying Willis' velocity had dropped to around 85. The reason the Sox didn't get Cabrera is that the Marlins insisted on packaging Willis in the trade and the Sox didn't want him.

If Willis can regain his old form he is a top pitcher, remember only a couple years ago he finished 2nd in Cy Young voting to Carpenter.

If not though, he'll post more 5 ERA seasons.

It's a bit strange, but I don't want the White Sox to get Willis. I would rather find out more about the young pitchers, especially Gonzales and Broadway, and look for improvement from Danks and Floyd. With the events of the past week or so, it may be the better direction for the Sox to go.

Willis is just a big of risk as Gavin Floyd, if not more so. He flat out sucked last year, his velocity was down, and then you want him pitching in the AL? Sounds like it would be a younger version of Contreras to me.

If true, that's dumb, because I'm fariyl confident that if you wanted to give him away cheap, you could trade Willis to an NL team like the Mets or Giants (esp if they trade Lincecum for Alex Rios).
