According to Rotoworld the Sox have contacted Luis but it sounds like he is looking for the kind of money we gave Linebrink. There is no way Kenny dumps that much money into two set up guys.

His agent says that he is in talks with the Sox, among others. He is believed to want a similar contract to Linebrink.

Luis did yeoman work in 2005. Let's put it this way, I'd take him back in a heartbeat over the trash that the Sox trotted out there last season except for Jenks.

Even though he got some flak, he did do a lot of dirty work, especially that game against Cleveland when he had to throw about 60 pitches. I would take him back, as long as it's less cash than Linebrink.

Yeoman work doesn't equal $19 million over four years though. That's insane. That's more than Uribe's making.

Brian:

That's the reality of the free market system in baseball in 2007 ESPECIALLY for pitching. The 'market correction' some hoped (prayed) for didn't happen due to MLB swimming in cash.

Either face the reality of the economic system or please explain to me another way of doing things.

Not being sarcastic, just wondering.

Is he worth 19 million probably not...unless one team gives it to him, then just as obviously he is.

I think all fans need to understand this basic premise.

I like Viz, but not for that money. I thought we overpaid for Linebrink, and he is better than Luis.

Set up guy?
He was the last pitcher out of our pen in 2005.

Exactly. He's a 6th, maybe sometimes 7th, inning pitcher. Cetainly not a setup man. He isn't nearly half as good as Linebrink. He'll get 2 years/5 million from someone and no more.

So this was the plan?

Maybe we can get him, Cotts, Politte and Hermanson back together with Bobby for one last big score. Yeah, that's it, and Timo and Blum, and Gooch and maybe even Willie. Just like old times.

God I hate this team.

We should turn Uribe into a reliever.

He's available now to; ATL cut him to make room for Infante and Ohman.
