Levine reporting that the sox have contacted the Royals about CF'er David DeJesus.

I have to say I wouldn't mind this acquisition, he's a career .282 hitter with a .358 OBP.

I've mentioned him here as a potential leadoff hitter. Most people hated the idea, though.

What would be so bad about this? Lets see DeJesus made $2Mil last year (quite a lot better than what Rowand or Jones would be asking for). 5 years in the majors he has a .282 Career BA, he's a leadoff hitter, .358 OBP. He fills 2 holes for us depending on what the Royals would demand for him. It is my understanding that they are trying to wrap up Guillen and then go after Jones per some of the sites ive been reading.

If this happens, it just makes me wonder where the rest of the money is going. I'll be a little confused if the Sox are fully rebuilding already. I'm not necessarily against it, but it'll contradict the propaganda.

I was simply asking which plan we were on now, considering that we are now going back to a Central Division rival. Our few last deals with them went bust. I still say go to the Reds and ask about their surplus of OF's (Freel, Hamilton, Hopper). At least then, we won't be dealing out of our division, and helping a rival acquire Andruw Jones. Why help them out?

So that would leave us with a lineup something like:

DeJesus CF
Cabrera SS
Thome DH
Konerko 1B
Dye RF
Fields 3B
Quentin LF
AJ C
Richar 2B

It's an upgrade from 2007, for sure. But the stars would have to align for us to contend.

Though, if getting the cheap DeJesus means we could sign Livan Hernandez to get a rotation of:

Buehrle
Vazquez
Hernandez
Contreras
Danks/Floyd/whoever

I'd be thrilled. Not to mention whatever bullpen help Crede would bring in.

DeJesus would be an awesome acquisition and would allow Kenny to pursue a trade for a big-name player who needs a big-money extension (Cabrera? That should be in teal, probably), as that would be yet another position with a cheap, productive player. I haven't really heard much on this rumor, but I'd be pleasantly surprised if the White Sox get him.

Agreed! Plus it would seem we'd have some $$ left over. DeJesus's OBP was over .400 each year but last. Not too shabby.

I don't understand why Moore and KC would give him up. He's a solid player.

I've always liked DeJesus, so I'm all for getting him on the Sox, as long as it doesn't cost us too much. He could lead off for us and play either CF or LF.

His OBP has never been higher than .364. Although, it has always been over .350 since coming up. I think your looking at slugging %.

He doesn't steal many bases and if I've never been impressed with his defense. I'd imagine Kenny is just kicking the tires in case other possibilities fall through.

I might just be blanking, but who is the Hernandez that would be third in our rotation?

We haven't had a lot of luck with Royals we've picked up recently.

Can't imagine why.

Maybe we should start trolling for Devil Rays or Pirates.

The Braves are reportedly offering Chuck James for DeJesus, so if the Sox want him, they are going to have to overpay. And I do not see any reason to overpay, considering that Rowand/Jones/Fukudome are all stlll available.

Just being on the Royals does not cause you to suck as a baseball player.

DeJesus' numbers aren't significantly different than Crawford's except for one key category: stolen bases. DeJesus just doesn't steal.

They're still the Royals, but not as far away as 2004. With a true ace, they could actually be a surprise contender.
