December 4, 1957 - In a trade that shocked and outraged many Sox fans, popular outfielder ‘Minnie’ Minoso and infielder Fred Hatfield were traded to the Indians for future Hall of Fame pitcher Early Wynn and outfielder Al Smith. Wynn and Smith were among the final pieces acquired for the franchise that would win the pennant in 1959.

December 4, 1979 - The Sox claim first baseman Greg Walker from the Phillies in the major league draft. Walker would make the big club for good in 1983 and have some very solid home run and RBI’s years during the 1980's. He’d then become the Sox hitting coach.

December 4, 1997 - Jerry Manuel is named as the team’s new field manager replacing Terry Bevington. Manuel becomes the second minority manager of the franchise in team history. In his seven years, the Sox would go to the playoffs in 2000 and have three winning seasons. He’d be named Manager of the Year for his efforts in winning the Central Division in 2000.

Terry Bevington: For my money the worst manager in White Sox history. His
brain dead BS just outshone all his potential competition. Slugging it out with
a rival manager on the field, starting a fight with an umpire at Gibson's,
signalling for the Invisible Reliever; that guy was just a complete and total

Didn't Bevington also argue over a White Sox player being called "safe" on a play? (He actually told the umpire that the player should have been "out," even though the player WAS ON THE TEAM HE MANAGED - so the story goes).
