http://www.rotoworld.com/images/pixel.gifAccording to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Cardinals and Brewers are discussing a Scott Rolen trade, but they haven't decided how much money St. Louis will pick up or what players the Cards will get in return.
It appears safe to assume that Chris Capuano would be in the deal. The Brewers shouldn't need to give up much more talent in return for Rolen, assuming that they're willing to pay the majority of the $36 million the third baseman is owed for the next three years. If Rolen is acquired, Ryan Braun would move to left field, leaving Matt LaPorta wondering about his future role with the team.

Don't know why the Brewers would want to do this unless the Cards pick up half the bill. Rolen's had some injury problems and looks to be on the decline. It won't be very fun paying a 35 year old third baseball $12 million in the last year of his deal.

That just means Bill Hall stays in Center, which is a huge mistake. It would also be their way of replacing Geoff Jenkins, and I think we all agree that they can do better than the 2008 version of Scott Rolen.

Why move Braun to LF?

Why move Braun to LF?
Because he's a terrible 3rd baseman...

Why move Braun to LF?

He makes Fields look like a Gold Glover.

Rumor killed.

Despite rumors to the contrary, Brewers GM Doug Melvin said he hasn't spoken with the Cardinals about Scott Rolen or anything else in a couple of weeks.
If that's the truth, then there doesn't seem to be much to the Rolen rumors. If the Brewers wanted him, they wouldn't go weeks without touching base with the Cardinals.

The Sox should offer Joe Crede for Chris Capuano. The trade would help out both teams big time

If Crede has to go, I would support this deal.

Yeah, I'm sure the Brewers are falling over themselves in anticipation of trading a quality starting pitcher for a guy who hasn't proven he can walk straight yet, let alone play baseball.

Quality? He had some good years, but he was pathetic last year. Although he didn't get a lot of run support.

Well if you did some research Capuano had a bad season last year and the Brewers would really want Joe Crede to pass a physical before accepting a trade.

I think Capuano's 2007 season is going to end up being a lot like Buehrle's 2006. Look for a solid rebound in '08.

The Brewers can easily trade Capuano . They have 8 starting pitchers and only 5 spots. They need a 3rd baseman badly. Kenny make if happen

I don't think the Brewers should go after any 3rd basemen, but if they don't think LaPorta is ready to play LF next year I guess they could try to trade for one.

He had a bad second half. Not season.

I cant believe that KW hasnt jumped on the chance to trade Joe Crede to the Brewers. The Brewers would take Rolen with a higher risk then Crede and it seems they want to trade Capuano.

Who do we want from the Brewers (besides Sheets, Fielder and Weeks and Hall?)

MLB.com's Adam McCalvy recently filed a report (http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20071203&content_id=2316320&vkey=news_mil&fext=.jsp&c_id=mil&partnered=rss_mil) with a few new Brewers tidbits. Nothing new on the Scott Rolen front, but feel free to jump over to that rumor (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2007/12/cardinals-rumor.html) to discuss it. On to McCalvy's article:

The Brewers briefly discussed Joe Crede at last month's GM Meetings. The Brewers and White Sox have been on friendly terms in the past; maybe they can work something out. There hasn't been much buzz about Crede lately, but the Carlos Quentin acquisition seems to punch his ticket out of town.

I wonder why this writer feels that adding a LF in Quentin automatically "punches" Crede's ticket out of town? They don't play the same position.:?:

Quentin plays LF... Where would Fields play now?

Edit... I have to read all the posts in a thread.

I think he is saying that prior to Quentin, Fields was in LF with Crede at 3B - now Quentin is in LF and the Sox don't have room for both Crede and Fields.

BTW - Rotoworld is saying that the Cards are looking at swapping Rolen and Chris Duncan for Hank Blalock.

But KW has been saying for quite awhile now that Fields will NOT be in LF, and that, under certain circumstances, Fields could end up back in AAA.

Rotoworld is now saying that the Rolen talks have cooled, and the Brewers are looking at Crede, among others.

I love Crede. But I'd be o.k. with him going to Milwaukee. He'd still be close, I like the Brewers a lot, and he could torment the cubs for a long time.

Kenny Williams has been saying for quite a long time now that Fields will not be in LF and that it was going to be either Fields or Crede at 3B. Getting a LF in Quentin does nothing to change the fact that we still have two 3B and one needs to be moved.

Tim Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is saying the Brewers are looking at several third base options, including Crede. Mostly because they think the options at left field are so poor.

He doesn't mention who they are looking to give up. http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2007/12/04/brewers-have-looked-at-many-third-basemen.aspx

I think Crede could be a good fit as the Brew Crew were sorely missing experienced players for the stretch run last year.
