I don't know, I think it's pretty classic. Bland is when a team trots out a new design that has no inspiriation whatsoever, this is at least supposedly historically accurate... But I'm no Indians jersey history expert.

I like the home alternate hat. The blue and gray jersies look exactly the same except for Wahoo on the sleeve.

Now that there's a new "block C" cap and the script "I" cap, could this mean the tribe may eventually begin to phase out Chief Wahoo?

Nah, he's still on 2 of the hats and all four jerseys.

I hope so, that smiling goofy indian has got to go. I can totally see why people are offended by it.

I like the retro uniform idea for Sundays. I wish more teams did it on a regular basis. However, only if it's Sunday and they don't go overboard (like the SOX did with our black alternates).

I like them a lot. I think a lot of teams are going to start to go retro with their jerseys. Some of the new ones just look terrible (Braves' Red alternates, Rockies' black vests with black shirts but white lining, Pirates' Red alternates). If you think about it, the Sox were the first team to go retro. Although they did streamline it with a different color scheme, the Old English logo hearkens back to old Sox unis. The trend seems to be happening in other sports too. The Pittsburgh Penguins went back to their old cartoonish penguin logo with a tweak on the colors, and the Vancouver Canucks returned to their original color scheme too.

Does anyone remember about 10 years ago when MLB (or at least, some teams) had a "uniforms of the future" day? I remember the Angels wearing uniforms with the names going vertically up the left side of the back. It was the worst thing I've ever seen. Including this (http://exhibits.baseballhalloffame.org/dressed_to_the_nines/detail_page.asp?fileName=nl_1977_houston.gif&Entryid=1328).

Well, he's firmly sewn onto the sleeves of the new retro jerseys, so probably not.

If I knew what I was doing I would have posted that one pic.

As for the hats, from the picture in that gallery that shows all 4 sets of unis, it looks like the hat with Wahoo on it is going to be worn with the road grays and the home whites, the "J" hat is going to be worn with the blue alts, and the old block C hat with the white Alts....

Yes. There's a closer shot of those jerseys in the background though with the corresponding lids and full Wahoo sleeve. Wahoo cap with blue brim for the gray unis, Wahoo cap with red brim for the home unis. So out of 8 pieces of clothing, the Chief is on SIX of them.

Chief Wahoo has been around since the early 50's, longer than most of us have been alive. If anything is "retro", it's the Chief.

I completely agree. Sundays across the league as "throwback" days would be awesome. It would be a welcome change, provide additional merchandising, and still not overdo it and ruin it.

Could this be the beginning of the end for Chief Wahoo? I'll bet he disappears without any formal announcement.

This was my first thought, too. I would guess that's what they'd like to do... but do it quietly.

Tasteful choice. I like the unis. I'll be the stirrups start to make a comeback within the next 5 years.

They should bring back the late-70s uniforms, with the really bad font that always reminded me of the "B.C." comic strip.

I love them....very classic and sharp.

However, I wish they would get rid of ALL dark alternate uniforms in baseball. I think they are hideous. The unis the Rockies kept wearing in the playoffs were possibly the worst I have ever seen.

Did any of you guys look at the photo array in that link? There is a HUGE patch of him on the sleeve of EVERY jersey they have, and he's on the two hats that they're going to wear with their NON-alternate uniforms. ............. Doesn't look like they're phasing him out to me. :?:

Wow, that's some tough talk, since baseball has had no shortage of terrible uniforms.

I agree, except in a few, select cases...

(The Giants no longer use that jersey, but I've always liked it... I don't think it should come back because it would make no sense in their current uniform theme, but I also like their dark alternate, too).

I wish it was the end of Cheif Wahoo, but he is the face (no pun intended) of Indians baseball, no matter how stupid he looks.

I like the uniform though. Much better than then the ugly vest they wore.

.... but I still think teams should ditch the dark alternates.

The first dark uniform top I remember was an Indians alternate in the early 1970s. At the time I thought the dark tops, particularly with light pants, looked like softball uniforms. The pullover tops seemed worse, although the all-orange Orioles uniforms looked ridiculous, especially on Boog Powell.

Now I find that the Sox black jersey (I own one) and a few others, including the Royals royal blue jersey are great baseball uniforms.

I originally mentioned this as a possibility not because I believe the Chief Wahoo logo is actually being phased out, but that the Indians are laying the foundation to actually do it. I would think that the traditional reaction that MLB and its franchises take to these kinds of controversies is to ignore them -- and the Indians could take the route of using these alternate caps more and more often and replacing the sleeve patches with the Chief on them with commemorative things from club or local history, and one day, we all wake up and their no longer using Chief Wahoo. The could then appear politically correct without ever appearing to "cave" to the people who protest. I see this as a potential "beginning of the end" scenario.
