Great, one Sox killer might be leaving the AL Central and another one comes back to the AL Central.

Now if only the Tigers could get Craig Monroe back, they would have quite a ****ty platoon in LF. I can't imagine Oblong likes this one.

This is still in the rumor stages...and involves the Cubs.

Hence, "What's the Score?"

You know how Jim Hendry does business...he acquires a bunch of middle infielders and corner outfielders, and hopes they can fill all the holes.

I'd be THRILLED if the Tigers get Jones.

officially... indifference which could lead to dismay if Jones gets 400 at bats. I like the idea if they are going to use a platoon with Ryan Raburn and decided that Timo Perez is really not the answer, regardless of his freaky 2007 numbers. I can go along with it if it means the idea is to save money so they can go after a top relief guy and another starter. The Flubs are paying a portion of the salary too.

You guys remember Raburn. He had a 7 RBI game against you this year, in that 5 game in 4 day run. But for some reason Leyland isn't penciling him in as a regular.

Hunter won't sign with the cubs because of the basket and the wall.

Looks like Sox killer Jacque Jones is headed back to the division.

Merged with the WTS thread and moved to Talking Baseball since it is gaining traction and now the Tribune is reporting it.

Slow news day. There's no bias here. It's not like the Bears played yesterday.

Oh, wait...

ESPN now says the deal is done. Spoke with Roland Hemond this morning, he was kind enough to call and congratulate us on becomming grandparents.

Roland thinks Detroit did this to cover themselves with Sheffield. He's in his late 30's, is coming off shoulder surgery and their are steroid, possible suspension questions, hanging over his head.

Jones has wanted out since last year, and I can't blame him with the flak he got in Wrigley. I am annoyed he's back in the division, but hopefully it's just a platoon situation. Thorny better learn how to pitch to him. The Cubs have made it clear that Pie is their guy in center next year, adding another utility player means that they may use other guys to get another left handed bat in the outfield.

Wonder if Dombrowski and Hemond talk.

I'd be very, very surprised if they don't. They spent a lot of time together when they were both in the White Sox front office.

Hendry is obsessed with that position. They are supposedly ready to give Kaz Matsui a 3 year deal.

Dombrowski was more or less Hemond's proteige (forgive my spelling) while he was with the Sox...I'll always maintain that firing Hemond for Hawk and costing us Dombrowski and TLR was the worst "trade" in all of Sox history.

Oblong

Not to hijack but I guess i will... if Dombrowski stayed with the Sox I don't doubt that the team would have went on a Braves like run. Each place he's went to had unique circumstances and he's succeeded.

I knew Hemond was DD's protege, I was just wondering if they talk on a regular basis. Is this Hemond's opinion or does he have some inside knowledge? I think it's his opinion only because I don't think he'd reveal any info they've shared.

Seriously... Theroit, Infante, DeRosa and Fonteno already. Grab Matsui and then disperse these 2B to various other random positions.

One could argue his 2nd half performance was a huge reason the Cubs made it to the playoffs.

Jones was terrible last year.

He had a decent 2nd half, delivering several key hits, but overall it was a down year for Jones.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him bounce back in Detroit.

The Cubs' obsession with second basemen/utility infielders is becoming very odd - I saw one report speculating they may try Infante in center field.

It's a fourth outfielder for a utility infielder. Let's move on.

I must admit I get a chuckle out of the people who think the Cubs are going to now parlay Infante into Carl Crawford. If that was going to happen, why wouldn't Detroit have made the trade with Tampa? :?:

DD needs to stay away from Hendry. Neif and now JJ. What next Prior?

I think we found someone that Konerko can score from second base on. Very little offense and a terrible arm. I see Tiger fans hating this one sooner rather than later.

DD shook him for Farnsworth.

I also laugh at how this is "breaking news" as well.

I think this is a steal for the Tigers. Infante is just a utility player, and Jones can still be productive as a platoon guy.

He had 5 homers, a .335 obp and .400 slg.
That blows.

It's a nice low risk/high reward move but my fear is Jones gets 400 at bats. He's a left handed Craig Monroe. The Cubs got Monroe because they were unhappy with Jones in the first place.
