I wouldn't put Hunter in the #3 spot. He has a career .324 OBP, and Konerko is capable of hitting for higher average and drawing more walks. Plus, I'd still rather see a healthy Crede at third.

If you're going to have Olivo catching, we clearly need to have Jeremy Reed in CF. The Ichiro guy is OK I guess, but Reed is easily the best player to ever step on a field in the history of the world.

In general terms the top two and bottom two spots manned by guys who can do a better job of getting on base, stealing, running, advancing runners and being able to bunt or hit and run better then what we've been seeing since July 2006.

The heart of the order I think will rebound but unless the above mentioned spots improve you're going to see a lot of the same solo home runs stuff that we have been looking at for the past year and a half.

Obviously 1-8 are deep pink and 9 is in teal, but you honestly can't find a better LF than Alfonso ****ing Soriano? I can find several.

Soriano is overrated, but aside from Holiday, Manny and Crawford I don't see a LF is clearly a better player. You could argue for Dunn, Bay, Carlos Lee, Burrell, etc. but I think those players are marginally better than Soriano, if at all.

Okay, I'll have some fun with this... I would love to see this line-up...

1. Furcal - SS -
2. Crawford - LF -
3. Thome - DH -
4. Konerko - 1B
5. Hunter - CF
6. Dye - RF
7. Fields - 3B
8. Pierzynski - C
9. Richar - 2B

sp - Buehrle
sp - Vazquez
sp - Billingsly
sp - Contreras
sp - Gio/Danks

rp - Jenks
rp - someone better than last year
rp - someone better than last year
rp - Wasserman
rp - Thornton
rp - someone better than last year

in my scenario here are the trades:

- Garland/Crede/Egbert for Billingsly/Furcal
- DLS/Broadway/Carter for Crawford
- FA signing of Hunter

I'd be interested to find out what our payroll would be for that team. I don't have the energy to look it up, someone want to help?

Just thrown together at the top of my head. I wonder what that payroll would be just for that lineup.:D:

Bullpen: Jenks, Wasserman, Floyd, and new people

I pick Floyd because I don't think KW is going to send him back to the minors.

Floyd is out of options. He can't be sent back to the minors unless he clears waivers first. It's either keep him or (probably) lose him. Same for Massett.

Anyone want to take a guess as to how many of these there will be from now until the beginning of the season?

I think we have already had about 5 +.

That's why I said he'll be on the roster next year. KW is using the wait-and-see method on him.

Ok, well you named three who are considerably better, and others who are close. That is my point.

I think, without a doubt, Masset will be with the team next year. Floyd, I'm not sure about, but the organization is pretty high on Masset. Unless he really soured on them that much, he'll be here.

As of now?

Richar (2b)
Owens (LF)
Dye (RF)**
Thome (DH)
Konkerko (1b)
Crede (3b)
AJ (C)
Anderson (CF)
Uribe (SS)

Fields - backup 3b and 1b, DH and PH
** Some of the best hitting I've seen from Dye was batting 3rd when he doesn't feel that he has to drive the run in because the hitters behind him are unlikely to. He has a real good eye when he needs it.

Calling Kenny Williams; Calling Kenny Williams. Lineup needs help. Lineup needs help

Hmm. Konerko averages somewhere around 21-22 GIDPKs per year, while Hunter hits into 17 or so. Not really a huge difference.

There is an article on ESPN.com about the top 50 free agents. Hunter is ranked 12th, but Keith Law thinks he is overrated, which I agree with. He has a reputation for being a great center fielder because he's made some amazing catches to rob home runs, but he's declining and is not really the best defensive CF (Gold Gloves notwithstanding).

Personally, I think he sucks and I don't want him on the team. I'd much rather have Aaron Rowand.

Well first off I must say that Hunter does not suck. Overrated, yes I will give you that. But Rowand is coming off of a career year, a contract year none the less. I know that we need to get one or the other, and if the price tags are similar, I would much prefer Hunter.
