So today is the day that the Sox can take the option on Uribe for 2008. Do we keep him, let him go, trade him? What do you think we'll hear today?

Personally, I wish we would make a move for Rafael Furcal from the Dodgers, and open the door for them to get A-Rod and us our SS. Everyone is happy!

What I think we will hear today is the Sox taking the option on Uribe, opening the floodgates to another season of 20 HR, a .220-.230 average, and many more churros eaten at SS.

Unless Kenny can somehow get another shortstop today, I think the Sox will keep him, then eventually deal him.

Uribe is a FA next season, so he's not a long-term answer for the Sox regardless of today's decision. It's just a matter of not being without a SS in the offseason, which can keep potential FA and trade costs lower, as the Sox would not be desperate to fill a gaping hole in the defense.

If Juan shows up thinner and more focused this spring, his value (both the the Sox and other teams) would be much higher. If not, we can always make a Borchard-like deal in the spring.

I like the Furcal idea.

Decline the option. Look for another SS via trade. If none available re-sign Uribe to a lower contract amount with "fat clauses" like the Red Sox gave the Blowhard.

No- his lack of discipline at the plate is enough of a liability. The White Sox can find a better option somehow...

Vizquel is getting $5.5 million. Everyone is going to be more expensive than Uribe and/or cost the White Sox some of the little talent they have in the minor leagues. Unless its a star, keep him, he may fool people next season and put it all together for a payday(I don't mean the candy bar, although that would appear to motivate him as well.)

Furcal is getting $13 million in the final year of a contract. I really doubt the White Sox want to go there.

We need some new blood. Send Uribe on his way.

If they're not paying $5M on Uribe and $5.5 on Crede, is it still a bad deal?

Realistically, the Sox probably won't upgrade the position. They may land equal talent, but they won't upgrade.

I think you got to stick with him for one more year.

Well, I guess the one good thing is that we should definitley know for certain by the end of today what will happen with at least once piece of the team. Either Juan's option is picked up or we have a new shortstop. I guess I'm assuming that if we pick-up Juan's option, we wouldn't or couldn't trade him by the start of the season? I realize I may be very mistaken about that assumption.

Hey, stop insulting churros! As far as Uribe - don't we have anybody in the minor leagues to bring up? Ugh, if the answer to this is no, then I guess we gotta keep him.

Sounds good to me. Give me someone with Uribe's talent that isn't lazy as hell, and we would have a pretty good SS.

Keep him, due to a lack of viable alternate options.

im gonna say no. Every time that he steps up to the plate it is almost a automatic out, and he kills rallies quicker than anyone.

Did you have to mention Andy Gonzalez's name to me today? I was having such a nice day until you reminded me of our horrible 2007 season :(:. I'm signed in to WSI waiting for my Uribe update ...

I don't want Uribe coming anywhere near Comiskey next year, unless it's in a visitor's uniform.

Now a dead issue. His option was picked up, and there is a thread on that. Post there.
