Just reported on MLB Radio, he was moving stuff out of his home in California (because of the Wild Fire) and hurt his shoulder.

He had surgery yesterday I think they said and won't pitch until the All-Star break of 08.

Sounds like a cover up to his Guitar Hero addiction.

Maybe they'll make a huge offer to Rivera now.

Todd Jones may still be a Tiger in 2008.

DETROIT -- With the California wildfires closing in on his parents' house, Joel Zumaya went up to the attic and tried to salvage a few things for his father.

Moments later, his 2008 season was in jeopardy.

Zumaya
A heavy box fell on top of the Detroit Tigers reliever, injuring his pitching shoulder and forcing him to have major surgery Wednesday in San Diego. He is expected to be sidelined until midseason.

That's a shame he had to get hurt in such a way, but I'm not going to miss him coming out of Detroit's bullpen.

Freak injuries happen to all teams, but to have it happen to you when helping your parents...that stinks.

Question... MLB player that lives with his parents... Why?

Where does it say that he lives in the exact same house as his folks?

Where does it say that he lives in the exact same house as his folks?
"He said a box fell on his shoulder," Dombrowski said. "The fires were approximately 2 miles from his home, where he lives with his parents, and his dad has a broken leg and wanted some items from the attic."

Maybe that just means he lives in the same town? I dunno? I took it to mean he lives with his parents.

That is a hell of a lot, but there are no guarantees he will make any more, even with the talent he has. Maybe he is being smart and saving it? I don't know. Besides, I'm sure he had a pretty nice place in Detroit, where he spends the majority of the year.

Isn't this the guy who got injured playing that Guitar something something game?

Oh, yeah, I definitely read it the other way, mostly because I don't picture any pro baseball players living at home with their folks.

Anyways, who knows? Tony Romo just signed a huge deal and he still lives with a roommate in an apartment. To each their own.

Maybe he's living with his parents while his father gets over his disability. The guy hurt himself trying to get his parents out of harm's way from one of the most damaging environmental events in my lifetime.

To me there is something to be taken from this story: that a rich and successful guy doesn't turn his back on his family in a crisis.

Here's hoping that Joel Zumaya gets healthy as soon as possible and dominates the league (except the White Sox) as he's projected to do.

Lots of Tiger fans and local media are suspicious about this. The timing doesn't quite add up. Weren't the fires under control by Sunday? There's rumors going around.

As for living with his parents.... He is engaged so maybe he's building a house or something. He's a young guy and has only made $750K or so. Half that's gone to taxes, at least, so it's good that he's saving some money. Especially now. I'm not confident he'll even pitch again, let alone come back as good as he was. My wife is a therapist and said this is the worst thing you can do to your shoulder.

To add insult to injury-literally, the box that fell was full of world series memorabilia. That thing's going to haunt me for years! I don't believe in curses but maybe Kenny's iodide use just blew it all to heck.

Didn't Curtis Granderson live with his parents the last couple of off-seasons too? I think I remember him saying something at the end of the season about how this off season would be weird because he'd have to make his own food for the first time.

Yes, last off season he finally got an apartment downtown. Chicago downtown, not Detroit downtown. I wouldn't allow that. Too much hope for him to let him roam around down there in winter.
