MINNEAPOLIS - The Twins have exercised their $6 million option on closer Joe Nathan, ensuring the two-time All-Star will be back for another season in Minnesota. The Twins announced the move Monday, as expected.

Or perhaps this July. If the Twins are in a bad spot, do you trade Nathan and try to begin rebuilding the farm system?

They may attempt to re-sign him, but I don't know think the chances are good for him to stick around because he could get a lot more elsewhere. They will be in a tough boat there without Hunter, Santana, and him if they all leave over the next year or so. Yes they can restock, but there are certain positions that are amazingly difficult to fill.

I was thinking the same thing. The 2008 season is very key for MIN. Even with the new stadium due in a couple years, if they struggle again, Johan and Joe could be shipped out. With Terry Ryan not pulling some shrewd moves anymore, who knows, they may go back to the Twins of the mid-late 90's.

I would think of grooming Liriano as a set up guy. Besides, who has ever come back strong the first year ofter TJ surgery?
