My hate of the Red Sox has grown almost to the level of my hate for the Cubs.

Actually I used to hate the Cubs and their fans, now there's nobody on the team that really bothers me, just the fans. The Red Sox have both going for them.

Congrats to Red sox fans, especially those hermit crabs who have made this site their home.

I'm too tired to see if anyone else noticed this, but when Kielty hit the home run the Fox announcer said the last to hit a World Series pinch hit home run was Geoff Blum of the White Sox. Wrongo. Geoff was already in the game as the second baseman when he did the deed.

I know exactly what you mean. As far as the players, though, I think that maybe if Manny Ramirez went into hiding somewhere with Sammy Sosa I'd like the Red Sox a lot more. The bandwagon-hoppers will fall away eventually too, and ESPN will then find somebody else to fawn over.

But the Red Sox are a great team right now (even with the self-indulgent Ramirez), no doubt about it.

Congratulations, Fenway. I know you appreciate the feeling.

Everybody was booked for Tuesday

Red Sox rolling rally
set for tomorrow (http://www.boston.com/news/globe/city_region/breaking_news/2007/10/red_sox_rolling.html)

Mayor Menino is expected to soon announce details of the parade which will be similar to the 2004 World Series victory celebration when duck boats carried the team through Boston. (Globe, 11:32 a.m.)

A new era dawns for the Red Sox (http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2007/10/29/the_best)

The Red Sox last night won their second World Series in 4 seasons, beating the Rockies, 4-3, to complete a 4-game sweep. Frustrated for most of the 20th century, the Sox have emerged as hardball monsters of the new millennium

That 3 man committee of Ellsbury, Youkilis, and Pedroia would have all been co-MVPs if I had a vote. Their combined performances in the leadoff and #2 spots, IMO, dictated the entire series.

I have to admit that, before the series, I didn't think a sweep was possible. After seeing Schilling and Matsuzaka struggle early in the Cleveland series, I didn't think that Boston could string together 4 really good outings in a row from their starters. I thought Colorado would light at least one guy up for 5 or 6 runs, but that never happened, and I must give credit where it is due.

The parade will pass three jumbo television screens and include a flatbed truck carrying the Dropkick Murphys, the Irish-style punk band whose music has become the soundtrack for the spirited Sox closer -- and step-dancer - Jonathan Papelbon.

"He promised the people he would do the dance," Mayor Thomas M. Menino said today at a press conference at City Hall, "and he will do the dance."
The duck boats will not take to the Charles River as they did in 2004, but will end at New Chardon Street near City Hall Plaza.

"The players didn't want to go into the water," Menino said. "There were a lot of folks who came into the water who weren't part of the parade. It was dangerous.

20 years ago I was a college student in Boston ( Boston College ) and back then Red Sox fans just wallowed in self pity.

Even then it was always them against New York and the hell with the rest of us.

With their World Series win yesterday, the Red Sox move ahead of the Dodgers in all-time World Series titles by franchise. Below is the list of franchises with 3 or more titles. No expansion team has more than two titles (the Mets, Blue Jays and Marlins have 2). Only 3 of the original 16 franchises has less than 3 - Indians (2), Cubs (2), and Phillies (1)

New York Yankees - 26
St. Louis Cardinals - 10
Oakland/Philadephia A's - 9
Boston Red Sox - 7
L.A./Brooklyn Dodgers - 6
Cincinatti Reds - 5
Pittsburgh Pirates - 5
New York Giants - 5
Detroit Tigers - 4
White Sox - 3
Atlanta/Milw/Bos Braves - 3
Baltimore Orioles - 3
Minnesota Twins/Wash. Senators - 3

I was happy to here a positive White Sox mention during the feed ESPN is recieving of the parade. They were talking about the coast-to-coast loyalty of Red Sox nation. About how the fans band together over long term suffering. Then he mentioned how the Cubs are similar to the RSox and the feeling was similar a couple years ago when the White Sox won it all he saw the same fan loyalty and appreciation. ESPN must have hated that positive WSOX and WSOX fanbase plug.

I am at my wife's office downtown and they still about 30 minutes away.....the size of this crowd is staggering

The crowd may be a bit quieter, but Copley Square appears to have 10 times more people than in 2004. The weather is a big factor, of course; it was freezing and snowy for the first Red Sox victory parade, while today is a gorgeous fall day with sunshine and blue skies and temps in the mid-50s. Apparently the Jordan's Furniture free furniture promotion -- and their ad support of the Red Sox -- garnered owners Barry and Eliot Tatelman a spot on one of the duck boats.

Dropkick Murphys have started up with "Tessie" again: "Don't blame us if we ever doubt you / You know we really couldn't live without you / Red Sox, you are the only, only, only ... "
