Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick has refused a bet with Ohio Governor Ted Strickland saying " I may live in Massachusetts now but I am not a Red Sox fan. My team is from the southside of Chicago. As a White Sox fan I hate both the Indians and Red Sox."

Expect him to get booted out of office when the next election comes up...

Cool. I like him already.:bandance:Would Mr. Patrick like to relocate to Illinois and become our Governor? We need all the White Sox fans we can get!

I'm expecting the president of red sox nation to soon authorize a military coup, and overthrow this dangerous regime.

Not likely....he has approved casino gambling for Massachusetts which will mean people no longer have to drive 2 hours to Connecticut.

He has mentioned in the past that as a 10 year old he lived and died with the 67 White Sox. He grew up in a tough part of the southside ( 47th and Wallace )

The President of Red Sox Nation has already called for a boycott.

I would expect him to be a Sox fan growing up in Canaryville. That's great to hear him speak out against the Red Sox. :D:

Breaking News: Red Sox Nation has voted to secede from Massachusetts and form their own sovereign nation, to be known as Redsoxica.
It has been decided that the national flag of Redsoxica will be Curt Schilling's bloody sock.

"The Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts obviously has no passion for baseball. It's quite apparent from his remarks that he only goes to baseball games to get drunk and start fights."

Lord knows we could use a new Governor, let alone one that is a White Sox fan!

Mod Edit: You really thought you would get away with a political comment?

Hey, you have to give the guy credit for sticking with his hometown loyalties instead of moving somewhere and faking being a life-long fan a la Hillary and the Yankees.

That's cool, but I think Sox loyalty should have him support Boston over those pieces of crap from Cle

Then if Obama were to get in the White House, we would have a Sox fan as president.(not meant to be political in nature)

That would be a great trade. Being that Blagojeich is such a big Cubs it would mean that the Governor of Massachusetts would be much closer to being a Red Sox fan than what they currently have. And we would get a White Sox fan for our Governor.

I wonder how the Chicago media will handle this. I have a feeling that if the governor of Massachusetts had said that he was a fan of the team on the north side of Chicago, it would be plastered on the front page of a certain newspaper...

And Obama is the real deal. He's a genuine Sox fan (ie wears a Sox hat when he's just out and about).

What a brave man to admit something like this. He might not be welcome at a victory parade if the Red Sox win the WS.

Depending on your point of view this could be a case of picking a new team to root for when you change your address, like many WSIers who post here, or a calculating political decision.

I don't think he should have came out and said he hated the Red Sox. I think he should at least vocally support his local team as long as it isn't against the White Sox.

In the end its only baseball, so its still not a big deal.

True. I saw him on Tim Russert's show last year and Russert asked him a question about Chicago baseball, and Obama's response was that he's a South Sider, so White Sox all the way.

Barack had a rally here in Boston the other day (with Deval)...the day Guliani said he was rooting for the Red Sox and caused a crapstorm.

He said something to the effect of I'm a White Sox fan, I assume you folks would rather have a guy stand up and admit his team than to change affiliations depending on the city he's in that day.

The other day I heard the TV news call the local astronaut going up in the shuttle this week as local Cub Fan (insert name I cant remember) from Lyons
heading into space.. I was like what the hell that he's a cub fan matter?!

Other than he's likely to be minutes away from finishing off a great mission only to drop a tool into space just before finishing a job thus making a mission destined for a great moment turn into a game 6 scenario from 2003.

Watch, it will be 100 years before another Cubs fan goes into space. Actually I would like to see about 1 million Cubs fans go into space and then have the space shuttle ditch them on the way back to earth.
