Glenn Ordway on WEEI just said that Tim McCarver would not be on the show this afternoon as promised and in fact has laryngitis.

McCarver is concerned he may miss some games of the ALCS

I'm sure we all feel the same way.

Ok, I'll be the first to say it: Why couldn't have this happened in Oct. 2005?

Well, if he has Laryngitis, then he cannot talk. If he cannot talk, then he cannot do any play-by-play.

Anyone know who would replace him? Is DJ still doing Fox games? Grace?

I haven't seen DJ do a Fox game in a while and when he did do them, it wasn't very often. Mark Grace or Joe Girardi would be my guess as replacements.

..and if we were to take another look at this, if he didn't have laryngitis, then he more than likely would have been able to talk. When you have a broadcast job that requires talking, you don't want to have laryngitis, because, as we mentioned earlier, it will impede your ability to talk....

"If I can't come to the game, I can't commentate, but I still think the team that scores more will eventually win, and if they don't win... they'll most likely lose."

Edit: Damnit, you guys already used the joke, I just saw McCarver and posted my thing. Damn :(

Ideally, Tim McCarver should only comment on games/do play-by-play in computer chat rooms. He wouldn't have the most idiotic things to say, so he wouldn't look as bad. People wouldn't have to deal with the irritating sound of his voice. Reducing the noise pollution his voice creates would be good for the environment.

This analysis was not meant to criticize the quality of the company in the White Sox Interactive chat room. But I don't know that anyone has bothered to visit that chat room in at least a couple of months.

I'm starting to think McCarver actually says these things on purpose and was a comedic genius all along. I love dry and understated humor.

At least I pretend he is so that I laugh during the games.

Mc Carver shows how good an annoucer Al Micheals is. I didn't realize how lousy McCarver is until after he was way from Micheals.

Somebody needs to give him a Ludens throat drop and after a while ask him if he still has the taste in his mouth

I don't think that taste is there

Fine, ship McCarver and Jerry Lewis of to France where they appreciate their comedic stylings.

Anyone but Joe Girardi. He is brutal in my opinion. I do love Mark Grace though and wouldnt mind listening to him for the rest of the off-season

Then how bad has John Madden become?

McCarver saw a specialist at Mass Eye and Ear and WEEI reports he is almost back to normal and should be fine tomorrow.

His problem came from the very cold weather here compared to the rest of the east and midwest.

Hopefully it's permanent, AND he gives it to Joe Buck.

He is doing an interview on XM Radio right now. Sounds a little stratchy but sounds like he should be able to do the ALCS games.

Perhaps he just needs to get a certain taste out of his mouth.

PLEASE let that reporter stretch the interview out for, I dunno, ten hours or so...

What a testament on how much McCarver likes to flap his lips. He has or at a minimum just had laryngytis on the eve of his postseason, and yet he is still giving interviews. Sheesh.
