Page 2 on ESPN.com. They claim the Cubs' tradition would go away if they won the whole thing.

Well it's basically true. If they by some small chance in hell win, they're no longer the underdog which is what everyone feeds on

why does it matter if the cubs win or not?

Maybe it gets some of the bandwagoners to go back north...

I'm pretty sure that any bandwagoners have already hitched their bandwagon to the Cubs.
Probably since May at least, the way our Sox season went.
One down, two to go.

Why the Cubs Must Win (http://hirejimessian.com/index.php/2007/10/03/why-the-cubs-must-win/)
I love this part
Seriously? The only thing worse than Ronnie Woo-Woo is the collection of *******s who call him over to their seats so they can take pictures with him and think that he is a part of the “Wrigley experience.” As lame as the Cubs pep rally was, far lamer was the fact that Woo-****ing-Woo drown out half of John McDonough’s speech with his mind-numbing routine. The fact that that homeless retard has been to every single Cubs home game that I can remember FOR FREE really warms my heart when I’m sitting in a virtual waiting room trying to earn the privilege of overpaying for a lousy playoff ticket.
