Hamels, Francis to get series started (http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/phillies/20071003_Playing_for_Keeps.html)
Here is how long it has been since the Phillies have been in the postseason: An out-of-town sportswriter showed up yesterday at the corner of Broad and Pattison and wondered, "Where's the Vet?"

Coming off remarkable runs to the postseason, Colorado and Philly match powerful lineups in a first-round series.

This may be the most entertaining series in the entire postseason. I think whoever wins this one is going to the World Series. Cole Hamels is the key to the entire Phillies postseason, as if he's good, they're unbeatable. If he's bad, the Phillies are done.

Rockies in 5. They have that look of a champion.

After game one there's gonna be a lot of runs scored in this series. Phillies in three, I think the Rockies are gonna run out of gas. It was a great run.

No, I know there's a week where they do one award a day. I think it's during the LCS where on Monday it's the AL rookie of the year on Tuesday it's the NL ROY and so on all week.

As evidenced by Game 1 of the 2005 ALCS...you would rather play the night before than have a couple days off. Like Big Frank said in the pregrame, if anyone is at a disadvantage, it's the Phillies because they haven't played for a few days.

Wrong. WSI told me the reason the Sox are not in the playoffs is because Rowand isn't on the team anymore and that our team has no chemistry because of it.

I'm torn. In Philly, we have the ex-Sox factor, but you gotta love the underdog/cinderella. What Colorado did to get to the playoffs was amazing. Win 14 of their last 15! They have to hit the wall at some point. The only question: will they win the world series before then?

Isn't it weird how sometimes the best players do not play up to their potential but a less known player (see Geoff Blum 2005 WS) does something spectacular? Strange things happen in the playoffs, I tell you. BTW, I am also a Chase Utley fan.

How bad of an umpire is Dale Scott? And no I am not just basing that on Ryan Howard's AB (which was terrible by the part of Scott, and he didn't have the guts to throw Howard out either) in the 9th or just this game. He is as bad as Phil Cuzzi if not worse. Just a terrible umpire that has no consistency in the strike zone and his delayed strike call is perhaps the most annoying thing an umpire can do.

Between him and Cuzzi I don't know which one is worse? However I do know they are both terrible and I fear anytime the Sox have one of them behind the plate that they will get jobbed.

I'm hoping for a Rockies sweep. I have tickets for Saturday, and it would be awesome to be there when they won the series. I didn't get to go to any games in '05 (I tried for WS tickets, but got screwed by Ticket Master), so I can't wait to be part of a playoff celebration.

I think it's interesting that people are just now becoming aware of the Rockies. It's kind of like the Sox in '05, except to an even greater degree because the Sox were in first for a while and some people realized they were good. The Rockies have a very good lineup, a solid bullpen, and decent starting pitching. The rookie starters have the stuff to be dominant, and without the losses of Aaron Cook and Willy Taveras (the same one who really impressed me in 2005 WS), this team probably could have won the division outright. Even so, I think they can go deep. I don't see Arizona beating them, and the Cubs are overrated. The AL teams might be able to do it, though.

The playoffs often favor the hot team, which is why wild card winners, under the assumption that they had to play well down the stretch to get in, have faired pretty well. Certainly no one was hotter than the Rockies going in, and it's showing. Still, 15 of 16? That's a long stretch; I wonder if they'll hit a wall soon.

What was the Sox' run in 2005? 11-1 in the playoffs, and they swept Cleveland in the last regular season series. Won the last 2 at Detroit, so that's 16 of 17. Lost the first 2 in Detroit, and prior to that won the last 3 of a 4-game set with the Twins. That put them at 19 W, 3 L over their last 22 games of 2005 including the playoffs. :o: And if you count the first game of 2006, that's 20 of 23. Wow, I'm getting weepy just thinking about it!

Rockies have won 16 of their last 17.

Wow what a terrible attempt by Burrell to try to slide at that ball. Matsui comes through again for the Rockies. 1-0. Will we see two sweeps in the same evening?

Colorado wins the game and the series.
The NLCS is set, the young guns from Colorado go against the young guns from Arizona. It should be a great series.

How is that laughable? He hit .309, had a .370 OBP scored over 100 runs, and hit 27 HRs.

He had the best season of his career.

Because it's the first step in the Colorado - Philadelphia series thread devolving into another Aaron Rowand lovefest.

And they both went 3 and out.

Somebody needs to remind Bud and the rest of the morons running MLB that Rowand plays for the Phillies. This is the second year in a row they have failed to win the World Series despite having the missing link on their roster.
