Southside Irish? :?:

Here is the last stanza of the Southside Irish song.

We sing the songs our fathers sang when they were growing up
Rebel songs of Erin's Isle in the South Side Irish Pubs
and when it comes to baseball-we have two favorite clubs
The Go-Go White Sox... and whoever plays the Cubs!

Southside Irish? :?:

I believe it's by Tom MacEldowny.

Let them stick to their dixie land quartet. It's worked so well for them for the past 99 years, why change it now?

A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request, Steve Goodman (If you actually listen to the words it's quite negative about the Cubbies.)

WBCN Boston played it this morning...

The tragic irony about Goodman. The day the 84 Cubs clinched the NL East

he died :(:

Do they still play the blues in Chicago
When baseball season rolls around
When the snow melts away,
Do the Cubbies still play
In their ivy-covered burial ground
When I was a boy they were my pride and joy
But now they only bring fatigue
To the home of the brave
The land of the free
And the doormat of the National League
Told his friends "You know the law of averages says:
Anything will happen that can"
That's what it says
"But the last time the Cubs won a National League pennant
Was the year we dropped the bomb on Japan"

That one they play after a Cubbie win (which some Cubbie friends played repeatedly for me the other day, hence this playlist...) is terrible, terribly annoying. This other song is actually quite negative about the Cubbies IMO.

If by "negative," you mean "accurate"...I'd have to agree.

CUBS CUBS CUBS

Well they made to the post and filled they up all the Wrigley Field stands now.
And they came back to city just to play in front of Urinalville
fans now.
And a team from Arizona put a hurt on all the World Series
plans now.
Cause they're the
Cubs Cubs Cubs
And they'll have to wait til 2008.

They already got it right -- "Jump" by Van Halen. The Cubs fans should take the advice.
