Like it or not, get ready for another Red Sox-Yankees ALCS. Red Sox in three. Yankees in four.
In the NL, we're riding the Rockies train. Colorado wins tonight then gets past the Phillies in five. Even though it would mean Fox obsessing us with curse talk for three more weeks, would anything be better or more fun than a Cubs-Red Sox World Series? You'd better believe that's the big market matchup the TV suits are rooting for. Cubs sneak past the Diamondbacks in five.

It all starts tonight with the first one-game playoff since 1999. Oh yeah, and some football game too.

If the Angels weren't playing a team we've all come to despise there's no way this poll is so lopsided. Their pitching staff is unimpressive beyond Lackey, the bullpen is in shambles, the offense is mediocre, and they historically get crushed at Fenway. I mean, I'm with everyone else hoping they beat the Red Sox and send their incredibly annoying fanbase off to spend the winter talking about how the Patriots did nothing wrong, but I can't see it happening this series.

Don't much think it matters though, since I'm thinking the winner of the CLE-NYY series is the one going to the World Series from the AL.

Just a couple things to consider for this series:

Game 1 (@ BOS) starter John Lackey is 0-2 w/ an 8.38 ERA at Fenway, with a career 7.46 ERA there. Which is better than his career 6+ ERA against Boston overall.

Jered Weaver has a 6.97 ERA against BOS.

Ervin Santana is at 5.73 against the Red Sox.

This does not look like a good matchup. Only Escobar has really had any success against Boston the last few years. Hell, if Colon is able to even give you 5-6 innings I might take a shot with him, at least he hasn't been lit up repeatedly by the Red Sox.

This stat is a little staggering considering who has played in Boston in the past

http://www.boston.com/sports/columnists/bob_ryan_blog/2007/10/postseason.html

David Ortiz has now had four consecutive seasons with 80 or more extra base hits. I'm sure you agree that sounds impressive, but consider this: no other Red Sox player has ever done that.

Nope, not Teddy Ballgame, either.

I have never worked on a more screwed up telecast than last night.

Our audio guru can mike Fenway so well that if someone drops a beer cup in Section 31 he can pick it up....but TBS doesn't want crowd noise to be a distraction. :?:

Fenway was a madhouse last night as far as crowd noise goes starting with the Standell's national anthem with a F-15 flyover but nobody outside Fenway saw it. That is such a big part of post-season baseball.......

TBS brought up some camera operators from Atlanta and one of them told me he hadn't worked a baseball game in 2 years :?:

Tom Werner was so furious about the coverage he was screaming at the lead producer from TBS that he may order NESN to televise Friday and deal with Bud later ( and I think he meant it )

From what I saw of the Cubs game they had the same issues in Phoenix as well.

and nobody told Chris Berman he wasn't televising the game so he popped up on ESPN Radio

NESN begged to be able to show the player introductions and the anthem but TBS-MLB said no. Who knew the Standell's could do such an awesome job with the anthem and the flyover just shook the park.

Meanwhile fans at home saw Big Frank saying nothing ( did anybody even coach him???)

and don't get me started about the missed pitches.....but Atlanta had to show the Captain Morgan pizza delivery commercial 8,000 times....

Can you imagine if there's a walk off home run to win the NLCS. "There's a fly ball to left field and that will do it. (Team) wins the pennant. They are going to the world series. We'll be back"

They sound like the old WWF Main Event broadcasts where they just film it, then later on record Vince and Jesse from a studio.

Think of the memorable network calls in the postseason and what they'd be like on TBS. (Sorry Fenway)

I enjoy TBS' quality of HD and their graphics and studio crew (yeah Frank!).

Their Dolby Digital 5.1 surround is crummy.

They need to work on announcers too. The guy who did the Red Sox game, he used to be with the Mets, he always bored me. Same with the Braves guy who is on the Rockies/Phillies. With those guys, it is much better to have an option to turn off announcing and only have stadium noise and PA going through the speakers, at least I'd feel like I'm there

ESPN radio also has decent (at least better) guys calling the games, but I am too lazy to play it or sync it up.

That was a depressing series. Nothing went the Angels way.

I do think the winner of the Yankees/Tribe series will end up in the World Series though. The Tribe are the best team in baseball, and the Yankees have some bad blood with the Red Sox (I'm sure 2004 is still in their minds, as well as being dethroned from their long stretch of divisional titles). They both will be out for blood.

I think if you polled the 2007 White Sox they would say Boston was the best team they played this season.I want the Indians as I do not want the 2 week circus a NYY series would become.

Boston and Cleveland are the two best teams in baseball, and I look forward to see them playing each other in the ALCS. There will be some interesting pitching matchups if the Indians get a chance to set their rotation. I just hope the Yanks don't blow it for them.
