Aw hell no....

Andruw Jones' agent Scott Boras told the Atlanta Journal Constitution that Jones won't take a "hometown discount" to remain in Atlanta next season.

"Andruw Jones took a discount to stay in Atlanta last time," Boras said. "He probably took 30 or 40 million less to stay, because he likes Atlanta and enjoys playing in Atlanta. But as he said earlier in the year, he wants his fair market value [this time]." Boras intends to seek a $17-$20 million per year deal despite Jones coming off a career-worst season -- .222 average, 26 homers, 94 RBIs.

There's no way ANYONE give Jones 5 years and 17-20mm per. No freaking way. If the Sox do that, I'll cry. I'd go with any of our 3 internal CF options (Owens, Sweeney or BA) before I'd pay $17-20mm for Jones.

Don't count the Yankees out. they've been known to overpay for players.

The "poor, small market" Red Sox who can't compete because of rising player salaries.

Last year the Cubs showed a propensity to throw money around like a drunk sailor on Shore Leave. Of course they will also sign A Rod, so maybe Borass can do a twofer.

They're a very likely bet if they don't get Rodriguez.

I agree. Though I wanted the Sox to get into the ARod sweepstakes, not here. A. Jones is on the down slide. The Sox can spend $20 mil much better elsewhere.

I agree. Jones has forgotten that it's legal to hit the ball to the opposite field this year. We don't need another right-handed pull hitter who can't hit an offspeed pitch.
