That is hard to read man.

Here's a better list:

Pitchers:

Aardsma, Broadway, Buehrle, Bukvich, Contreras, Danks, Day, Floyd, Garland, Haeger, Jenks, Logan, MacDougal, Masset, Meyers, Oneli Perez, Phillips, Reynoso, Sisco, Thornton, Carlos Vasquez, Javier Vazquez, Wassermann

Position Players:

Hall, Lucy, Pierzynski, Cintron, Crede, Fields, Konerko, Ozuna, Richar, Uribe, Anderson, Dye, Erstad, Andy Gonzalez, Owens, Podsednik, Sweeney, Terrero, Thome

My picks to be gone: Aardsma, Bukvich, Contreras, Garland, Masset, Sisco, Reynoso, Vasquez, Cintron, Uribe, Anderson, Erstad, Gonzalez, Podsednik

So that's 14 for me.

Let me add to that.

I'd imagine one of Owens/Terrero will go since I think we'll get a FA CF and we don't need two fourth OF's. One of Thornton/Meyers will go too since Logan isn't going to be going anywhere. My guess is Meyers is gone. That's makes 16.

It's also worth noting that in order to reinstate Crede and Ozuna we'll have to take two names off of this list anyway. We're at 40 but it is because Crede and Ozuna are on the 60-day DL and don't count against it. Otherwise we'd be at 42.

Some of the players on the 40man are just filler, like Reynoso, Oneli, and Vasquez. There is some upside there but they have to be pretty far away from being in our plans.

A lot of our moves are going to depend on options remaining. IIRC, Anderson, maybe Vasquez, Masset, Floyd, Aardsma, Sisco, Andy Gonzalez and possibly others will be out of options next year. Obviously we're not going to carry all of those guys so we're going to have quite an active offseason at least in terms of turnover. Plus we'll have some minor league guys that we'll have to add to protect from the minor league Rule-5.

Some see him as a force of evil for two reasons:

1. He hits a lot of home runs and doesn't play small ball.
2. Aaron Rowand was traded for him.

Alas, he is far and away our best hitter against right-handed pitching. I can't see the Sox trading Thome. If they're going to trade a slugger, Konerko would be the guy. That doesn't seem likely either. Who would play first?

God, I hope not. We can't keep moving people to new positions all the time if we want to win.

I am not saying he hasn't been... I just feel as tough he has trade value for teams like the A's or Angels... for younger guys/speed guys and it would rid a large contract thus allowing KW to spend more

If the organization was thinking about going in that direction, I have to think Josh would still be playing third.

Wouldn't make sense to move him from the infield to the outfield, then back to the infield in a completely different spot.

Why do so many people think Hall will be gone? He was signed to a two-year contract, with an option for '09...no one will make an attempt for him after this year's season.

I do think he will be better next year, anyway. People forget that he turned down surgery to play, so he's been playing hurt most of the year. Hall will be fine...I think it would be stupid to dump him.

Anyway, I'm just going to go off the active roster and say who I don't think will be with the team next year. You can find it here (http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/team/roster_active.jsp?c_id=cws).

Bukvich, Contreras, Garland, Myers, Uribe, Erstad, Pods, and Terrero.

I didn't include Broadway, Phillips, or Lucy on the list because they will still be within the organization.

This question gives me angina because I want a lot more players gone than will happen. I predict that the bullpen will see a LOT of changes (4), and there may be one position player dealt. They'll shake up the "also-runs" like Gonzalez and herald that as a shake-up, but Sox fans won't be fooled.

Why I say there won't be a lot of position player trades is because KW thinks that his formula for success this year was and will be still pretty sound.

There are only six players I can rationalize (somewhat) after this years performance that I would want on this squad. Everyone else should be hung from the yard arm.

Taking into account the fact that some of the guys on the roster are going to be in Charlotte next year. I expect these guys to be out of the organization entirely:Aardsma, Bukvich, Contreras, Garland, MacDougal, Meyers, Sisco, Cintron, Uribe, Erstad, Andy Gonzalez.

Aside from his power numbers, two of the things I like about Thome is that he has a high OBP and he grounds into very few double plays - only 4 times in '06 and a little higher at 10 times this year. By comparison, Paulie has hit into 25 and 20 the last 2 seasons.

My prediction of who will be gone next year:
Podsednik, Uribe, Erstad (I wouldn't mind having him as a 4th OF, but his option is for $3.5 million), Cintron, Gonzalez, Contreras, Contreras, Bukvich, Meyers, Aardsma

Does anyone know if Hall is going to have shoulder surgery in the offseason?

Worst theory ever. You don't trade a 3-4-5 hitter for speed, its pointless. You only do that if you can justify making up 2-3 positions. That would mean Thome has to have a massive contract. He doesn't because the Phillies are paying a ton. Add that to the fact his wife is pregnant, hes ending his career, and he is home near his dad, and he probably has 2 teams he would waive his NTC to go to. Thome will be back in 2008. Keep in mind, with the games he missed, if he had played a full year, he would be inching near 40 homers, which he still may get.

Im all for getting some speed mixed into the lineup, but I don't understand why we would trade a guy who can knock in 100 and score 80 for a guy who can knock in 40 and score 90. Ultimately we are taking runs OUT of the lineup.

I haven't heard anything but I would tend to think no. Surgery for a Torn Labrum is a long recovery. 2 of my team mates in college had it on our baseball team, 1 took the projected recovery and missed his freshman year, and 1 rushed it back for an 8 month recovery and never threw normal again. Now hall may only have a small or partial tear, and there may be surgery that can improve but not totally fix it, but from what I do know, if he has the full surgery he wouldn't be ready until late july early august at the EARLIEST.

I don't think Hall is going to have surgery. If it was necessary, they would have shut him down and gotten the procedure done a month ago.

Unfortunately, the division has several, top-of-the-rotation left-handed starters. Given that, while I agree he has value, I'm not sure it's enough.

In a perfect world these guys would be out the door:

Aardsma
Bukvich
Contreras
Day
Floyd
Logan
MacDougal
Masset
Myers
Reynoso
Sisco
Thornton
Hall
Cintron
Uribe
Anderson
Erstad
Gonzales
Podsednik
Terrero

That's a total of 20 players.

The reality is you'll probably only see half that number leave. For various reasons that have nothing to do with performance, the other ten will probably still be around (i.e. contracts, not being able to find taker and so forth...)

Also regarding Masset (and Floyd)... they are out of options meaning the Sox either MUST keep them on the big league roster or trade / release them. There is no middle ground.

Particularly with Masset, based on his numbers, I wouldn't want him within 100 miles of a revamped bullpen next season would you?

A week or two ago Terry Boers mentioned that his White Sox source had a list of ~9 players that the White Sox organization wanted no more of.

I remember the following were on the list:
Pods, Cintron, Uribe, Hall, Aardsma, Sisco. I don't remember the rest of them.

Edit: pulled it up on the podcast. Garland is another. And Macdougal. He said there were two more he couldn't remember. He indicated that Garland would get dealt only because of the expiring contract.

Erstad

And probably a few more (someone in the Aardsma, Massett, Sisco group is likely to be gone).
