Inspired by the Red Sox collapse and the panic news coming out of Boston, I'd like to start a poll comparing this year's Red Sox skid to the White Sox skid in '05.

I'd like to say we panicked more, but the way Red Sox fans are about to jump, I'll have to say them.

The Red Sox are going to make the playoffs regardless, that wasn't the case for the Sox.

Red Sox are looking like a lock but they are still not mathematically guaranteed a spot. Boston needs to only go 3-6 to be a lock. If they go 2-7 and Detroit wins out, the two would be tied and Detroit would get the nod due to the better head-to-head record.

No there would be a playoff game head to head only applies when both teams are in and it is for seeding only

Nothing catches the mood of this asylum I call home than the WHINER LINE

Like the Tigers can win out for the rest of the season. Pft. Sure.

Red Sox fans need to stop whining. They have a post-season spot regardless of what happens.

Red Sox fan's ARE panicking more, but White Sox fans had more reasons to panic

Us in 2005. We could've missed the playoffs. Boston is in regardless. Hell, I think Met fans have more reason to panic right now instead of Red Sox fans...

Ah, that's right.

I'd say us in 2005. Not just because we weren't guaranteed a playoff berth but also because it had been 88 years since we won a World Series. The Red Sox are only 3 years removed from winning one in '07.

Exactly. The Red Sox were up, what was it...14.5 games at the beginning of June. The White Sox were up 15 at the beginning of August. That 2 months makes a big difference.

Compare the '05 Indians post-all star break (I think we swept them in a 4-game series and still were something like only 8-9 games ahead) to the '07 Yankees post-all star break.

The Indians were better than this year's Yankees but in no way were the '05 White Sox playing as awful as the '07 Red Sox down the strech. Cleveland could NOT lose, and that was pretty daunting.

So yeah, this guy said it a lot more eloquently:
Red Sox fan's ARE panicking more, but White Sox fans had more reasons to panic

I'll never forget the lead that was blown in KC and then the loss the next day with the Indians right behind. Cub fans at work were getting excited. It would have been considered one of the worst chokes ever. God, was I wishing for a meteorite to crash into Cleveland or onto my head.
