Another puppet for Drayton. Wade did draft Utley, Howard, and Myers. But he's not a fresh, innovative GM at all. Too bad for the Astros.

I'm not especially thrilled about the "old-boy network" hire of Ed Wade, but he's certainly an upgrade over the completely inexperienced Tim Purpura. Wade ran the Phillies for 8 years, and even though they didn't make the playoffs, they were a decent team each year, and his track record at player development speaks for itself.

I think it will all come down to if owner McLane lets President (and former GM) Tal Smith run the baseball operation and work with Wade (who worked under Smith in Houston before going to Philly) as he's claiming he will do in the Houston papers.

If Drayton keeps his hands off and lets the baseball people run the team, they'll do fine. Big if, though. :angry:
