Mashes three homers in leading the Blue Jays to a 6-1 win over the Red Sox. Nice to see the guy still bashing homers :bandance:

Don't look back now; but, the Yankees are leading Baltimore late in the game. This IS a division race.

Makes me love him more when he does that to the Blosox. I'm sure if he keeps it up this series it will be because of some new curse.

They shouldn't have let Gabe Kapler go.

The last time he had a three homer game was against, you guessed it...the Red Sox.

There were three important difference in tonight's game, however. The first time, the home runs where hit in Fenway, they were hit for the White Sox and all three were hit off of Tim Wakefield -- 11 years and two days ago. Tonight, only the first two came against Wakefield.

Thomas tied Ernie Banks and Eddie Matthews on the all-time list. He passed up Mel Ott tonight.

I haven't heard if Thomas plans to play in 2008.

Considering he's signed through 2008, yeah, he's going to be playing next year.

Can you think of any reason he wouldn't? His stats are still pretty good with an OPS in the .850 range and currently 13th in the AL with 25 HR (oh how the times have changed). I'd think some team would sign him to be the DH. He shouldn't be prohibitively expensive. A team like the Mariners would probably love to have a bit more power in the middle of their lineup.

Edit: And nevermind since he's apparently Blue Jays' property...

Considering he's signed through 2008, yeah, he's going to be playing next year. With a 2009 option that's guaranteed if he gets 1000 plate appearances '07-'08, or 525 plate appearances in '08. Since he will go over 600 PA this year, it looks pretty good for him.

I love it when Frank goes deep. He has one of the sweetest swings. Even better is when it is against the Red Sox. Worse though, is it helps the Yankees.

Oh well, glad to see the big guy get a curtain call, he deserves em.

I saw the replays of the three home runs and it was vintage Frank! That sweet swing of his that we saw so many times ... Sad that we could not see him hit his 500th home run in a White Sox uniform but very happy for Frank that he is still playing and still hitting home runs. He was the face of the White sox for so many years;I will always root for Frank Thomas to do well.

Thomas became the active player with the most home runs against the Red Sox, surpassing Alex Rodriguez with a two-run shot in the first inning. The 39-year-old DH then went on to hit two solo shots, with all of the drives sailing beyond the left field wall. With the three swats, Thomas passed Mel Ott (511) and forged a tie with Ernie Banks and Eddie Mathews (512) on the all-time home run list.

If he hits 3 more HR's today versus the Cards then I think a 5 HR in two days thread is warranted.
