Does anyone have a good guess as to when the 2008 schedule will be released? I'm going to be in Chicago in May and I'm dying to know if the Sox will be at home when I'm in town.

I think it's a good bet the Sox will be at home during May.

The draft is out.

Boston is being shown as opening in Toyko with Oakland ( the Red Sox still have not officially said yes ) and then will go to Oakland and play the A's 3 more times.

Boston also goes to Houston and Cincinnati for the first time and the Flubs come to Fenway.

3 years in a row playing them, doesn't make any sense.

Neither does an unbalanced schedule being made more unbalanced by goofy interleague matchup's without rhyme or reason. Example playing both the NL East and Central and then the NL Central and West.

I think they've just leaked a few details like the intraleague games. I would like to know when the Sox are playing the Yankees in New York. I'm sure plenty of us want to see one last Sox-Yankees game in Yankee Stadium before it closes. It would be nice to know if the series (I assume there will be only one) will be early in the season, in the middle or at the end so we can plan accordingly.

You know, when the Yankees played their last game at old Comiskey in 1990, Andy Hawkins held the Sox to no hits but lost because of a colossal collapse in the defense (and a few walks).

Wonder what will happen at the Sox' last game at The House Ruth Built?

Many baseball historians trace baseball's rebirth to that series.

Games 6 and 7 were never supposed to be in primetime but 4 days of rain changed that and then the ratings exploded for Game 6 and 7.

So, if the Sox are headed out west, and we already know they'll be in SF in May, what are the odds of them being in LA right after that? Wouldn't it make sense to schedule them one after the other? I'm just hoping for road trip purposes, but I'm pretty much thinking it's not gonna happen. :(:

Knowing MLB, the Sox probably will have to make 5 trips to the West Coast:

1 trip to play the Giants

1 trip to play the Dodgers

1 trip for a usual West Coast swing to Seattle and Oakland

1 trip for another usual West Cast swing to Oakland and LA

1 more trip to Seattle and Texas.

Of course, the one visit to Texas probably will be during July or August, when it's oppressively hot here.

I doubt that will be the case. If you look at the schedule from this season, the Sox had just one interleague series in May (on a weekend) which was preceded and followed by "regular" games vs. AL teams. Then in June they had several interleague games in a row. So, if 2008 is done the same way it was this year, then that series in May in SF won't be immediately followed by a series in LA. Who knows though? They might mix it up next year.

If the only May interleague series is the Giants, then it looks like they'll be doing back to back weekends with the Cubs, and the Dodgers series will be June 23-25, or 24-26. If they have a night game in LA on the 26th, and a day game on the 27th in Chicago, that would be bad.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the collective bargaining agreement allows for a night game on the west coast, followed by a day game in the Eastern or Central time zone.

The reverse is happening in Boston tonight. Oakland has an off day traveling back home so the game must be a "day game" The Red Sox put it at 5 PM ( not 5:05 ) which is the last minute that is considered a day game.

You will probably be able to see the Sox play for a week in California in May and also see the Sox play for a week in California in June. And you won't have to drive (or fly) 400 miles between games in the process.

At the Giants game last Sunday, they handed me a tentative home schedule that showed the Sox playing in San Francisco May 16-18. I was excited to see the games on a weekend. I figured the Sox would be in Oakland either before or after those games, although I can't find an A's schedule anywhere.

The Sox broke up the killer A's-Angels roadtrip a few years ago. Going down to play the Dodgers in the same week as the Giants wouldn't make any sense unless the Sox also played the Angels on the same trip. And that would truly be a killer roadtrip. I expect the Sox will go to Seattle on the Oakland-San Francisco trip. That alone would be a tough roadtrip of 9 or 10 games.

The Sox doing LA and SF in the same week would make no sense.

The odds seem pretty good that the White Sox will play in Yankee Stadium or Fenway Park from April 29th through May 1st, followed by the weekend series in Toronto.

The week before 4/29 they play the Yankees and Orioles at home. They wouldn't play Baltimore on a home and home series, and it would make sense that they would travel part way (New York or Boston) to Toronto for a 3 game set.

Just throwing a guess out there, but I think they'll play in Anaheim during the week of 5/12 followed by the weekend series vs. San Francisco. MLB works to avoid having two local teams (White Sox/Cubs, Giants/A's, Yankees/Mets, etc) at home during the same time. It happens, but it's very rare.

The Giants have a homestand the week of 5/12, and the Dodgers are on the road during that week. Might be reading too much into this, but I would think it's a Seattle/Anaheim/San Francisco road trip, with Oakland coming in August.

Well, damn. Looks like I won't be seeing the Sox in Tampa next year like I planned; school is still in session during these times.

Boston Globe reports a new draft comes out next week and it will have changes from the first one.

Both Toronto and the Yankees rejected theirs. Toronto wants to be home on July 1 (Canada Day) and the Yankees are demanding they play their final game at Yankee Stadium. The first draft has them finishing at Fenway. The Yankees asked Boston to switch dates and the Red Sox laughed at them.

Figures...

You can't blame Boston for that

Won't mean anything anyways as Yankees will finish behind Toronto next year :D:

They do the same thing in August- fly out on 8/14 for a 3 game series at Oakland, returning for a home game on 8/18.

Two trips to Baltimore will be very nice!

After 3 games were SNOWED out, did it really make sense to open the season in Cleveland in March?

And if they win the world series, theres a possibility that they move that to a night game like they did for us in 06.

I'd rather have fewer, longer trips than more, shorter trips.

It's too bad the short trips to the Dodgers and Oakland can't be combined into one trip.

We should be playing San Diego or Arizona at home NOT Pittsburgh again. We should play 4 teams in the NL West. I looked at Cubs, compare the length of our trips to there's. I do not get how 2 teams from 1 city playing 162 games apiece have such different length on road trips not once but multiple times in 2008!

I'm there! Have to see Yankee Stadium at least once before they tear it down. I'm just hopin' the Mets are at home around that time to catch a game at Shea before they blow that up too! Or, I could go the ever-so-close-to-each-other road trip of New York and Kansas City on back-to-back series. :?:

Here's a tip to whoever starts the '08 opener. Don't pitch to Sizemore!!!!!!

I really want to head up there to see them, but disappointed it's not on a weekend. Although I want to see Yankee Stadium, I have no desire to see Shea.

Glad Sox are at Camden Yards twice, but both midweek trips so I'll have to get there quickly.

This looks like a lot more late night West Coast start times. I bet the TV affiliates are thrilled about that. And is it me or are the Sun-times and Trib putting their editions to bed earlier and earlier these days. Seems like you never get a final score much less a story in any game that goes beyond 10:30.

How would avoiding the Evil Empires in the regular season end the drought? They would still have to win 7 playoff games to get the honor of playing the best of the best league in the World Series and then somehow winning 4 games before losing 4.

I wouldn't hold my breath or bet the mortgage on that happening.

Well, the Cubs have already done the home/away series with the Yankees already, so they don't need to play them. I'm glad we have been spared a Cubs/Red Sox series next year though.

The Red Sox do come to Cincy next year to play the Reds though. Should be really fun.

I'm a little disappointed that the Sox don't come to Cincinnati again next year.:(: Oh well, we played them in '06, so we can afford to wait a little bit, I guess.

I'm really bummed. I was hoping to see the Sox and K.C. play at least a series here in K.C. before I depart the area in mid-June 2008. But, alas, it wasn't meant to be. I guess I'll go see the Yanks, the Blue Jays, and the Orioles.

I know this has been beaten to death on some of these threads, but it is really crazy how the Sox manage to play the Pirates 3 years in a row, but they haven't played the Brewers ONCE since 2001.:?: I like interleague play, but the way they schedule it can be weird sometimes. Like how the Twins haven't been to Cincinnati since 1998 (and aren't due back in 2008 either), but the Rangers have been to Cincy TWICE in the last 3 years...oh well....

If MLB was smart they would have the Sox playing the Cubs as the opening series.. We know that opening day is always sell out but in early april its to dam cold for a lot of people to go to the games so why not play the big games in the opening month

That's really not smart. The way it is, they sell out one game of the opening series, and the three games of the Cubs series. That's four games. If the Cubs series was the opening series, then they only have three sellouts. Besides, doing the series that early would probably cut down on a lot of the hype and anticipation. I think it's fine how it is.
