I say yes, there is too much pride on this team to finish last. After all we are not the loveable losers.

A couple of good games isn't going to get my hopes up, I've been through that too many times this season.

It would be nice if they did, though...

I'm really hoping for Morales or Smoak. But at the same time, I'd like to see Richar, Fields, Owens, etc. continue to show signs of development. Owens has it up to almost .250/.310 from .172/.226 on July 5th. Fields is hitting the ball hard. Richar has some work to do, but in his last 29 ABs, he is 9 for 29 with 2 walks, 1 HR and 3 doubles to come from .182/.265 to .214/.287.

It is also great to see Wasserman throw effectively.

Id like to see what Richar would do batting 2nd.

If they do it will be by default, and be nothing to be proud of.

They're only 1.5 games behind KC right now with 7 left with them. I say yes.

It depends on how many errors Cintron and Gonzalez make per game from here on out.

It would be nice not to be a "last place team." But neither team is making the playoffs, just like the second place team.

Oh how right you are and how sad it is that you had to write it.

I hope not. I think that a much more interesting race is that to the bottom. Two seasons from now, most people won't even remember that we fought our way out of last place in the division. If we "win" the worst-team race, we'll have better draft options. Maybe it will even increase the sense of urgency a bit (probably not).

As I write this, we're a game ahead of Tampa in the overall standings. But it probably won't be decided until the final few games -- there are 10 teams within 5 games of the worst record, and 5 are within 2.

I hope not. There is no pride to get anymore. This team was pathetic all year. Let them finish last, and hope that makes some of these veterans give a **** next year. Right now if I had to choose between 4th or 5th, Ill take 5th, because we get a better draft pick. Im sure Jerry is hoping we make a run out of the top 10, alot of people are going to be all over him when he passes on the next crop of high ceiling Boras clients.

Who cares ? There is first place, then everybody else. A week after the season ends, no one will remember or care about the order of finish of the non playoff teams.

That statement is funny, "too much pride to finish last".

The last thing I want this team to do is get hot the last 3 weeks and the management getting fooled in keeping suck players like Uribe and Cintron. I'd prefer this team to suck all the way to the end.

Correct. I think we get the #1 pick in the draft next year at this rate. We suck.

Totally agree.

I just want them to get the top pick in next year's draft now. Other than four key developments (Buehrle's no-no, Jenk's streak, Buehrle's extension, and Fields' progress) there is nothing at all to be proud of. Even if the Sox win their last ten in a row or something, five years from now Sox fans aren't going to look back on a 75-win season and say "wow, what a proud team that was!"

Don't look now, but we're only 1/2 game behind KC now (they're 1-9 in their last 10 games).

It's not the NFL draft -- though looking at the Sox lineup I think there was some confusion on that point in the past. Which JD Drew-like can't-miss Boras client are we drooling for?

I think the Sox will pass KC and finish with better records than Baltimore and Tampa Bay. It wouldn't surprise me if the Sox ended up, like, fifth in the draft order.

That doesn't upset me.
