A player has to be on the 25 man roster ( or the DL ) as of Midnight August 31st BUT

If anybody on the final list is injured they can be replaced by ANYBODY as long as they were employed by the team on August 31

How is that any different than anybody else? Did you think the the Red Sox should get their own set of rules?

That has been the rule for a long time.

How is that any different than anybody else? Did you the the Red Sox should get their own set of rules?

He is just saying that the Red Sox (specifically their director of baseball operations) explained the rules for the entire MLB, not just Boston.
