First road win in four weeks (3-1 win over Detroit on Sunday, 8/5)

First shutout since July 28 (2-0 over TOR)

First road shutout since June 1 (3-0 over TOR)

Hopefully Contreras has a few more outings like this, and the rumored Furcal deal becomes a reality.

I have heard this discussed a few times on WSI. Is this a legitimate rumor or just wishing on our part? Why would the Dodgers want to unload Furcal?

I'm not questioning your comment, I'm just curious as to whether that is really a possible deal.

Who's complaining? I'll take a win no matter how we get it.:bandance:

I keep hearing that Jose has been dealing with personal issues all year. He's been bad most outings, but he's shown flashes. Assuming he's okay physically, is there enough time in the off season for Jose to get his life together? Or have I been hitting the sauce too hard?

Contreras was effectively wild today. Two wins in a row for Jose. Maybe he can get on a little roll here to finish the year and make himself tradeable.

Anyone who thinks we can catch the Kansas City Royals is crazy.

We still have six head-to-head meetings, and we are 8-3 against the Royals this year! :supernana:

Perhaps the seventh meeting will put us over the top.

Go Sox.

Back to back wins for Contreras is encouraging, especially impressive against a potent Cleveland offense. I'm rooting for Jose to turn it around and build momentum for next season. For better or worse, we're stuck with him with the contract he has which is why I'm pulling for him to turn it around. I think the Furcal rumor is just that...rumor.

The real question is...do you want to? Finishing in 4th or 5th does not matter to me. In the immortal words of Ricky Bobby " If you are not first, you're last".
I think I'd rather have a higher draft spot than garner a few more wins...

I'd rather win. I'm too competitive to say otherwise. We'll be drafting high enough to get a good player regardless.

I want them to be in 4th. Chicago mediots get way too many jollies referring to us as the "Last Place White Sox". As if their favorite team 8 miles north has never ventured into such territory.

I would rather have Pedro Alvarez next year and let them see our shiny World Series Trophy. Pedro Alvarez looks to be an impact player, who should get the fast track to the majors. Who cares what a franchise that hasn't won since 1908 thinks of our team. The only way they can find fans that know what its like to win a world series is to purchase a shovel or a ouiji board. I would rather take it on the chin this year, and then have Pedro haunt them for a long time.

I only watched for a few moments, but I saw his fastball at 93 MPH a couple of times, then again, I've actually seen Jose with pretty decent velocity all season. Also, his fork ball still seems to have a lot of movement and other than some off-field distractions, his pitches and arm having looked pretty good all season. His numbers are god awful though, in every category. Hopefully, Jose can get his stuff together and help this team in the future or help us get someone (leadoff hitter) who can. Either way, it's good to see him get back to back wins, I like the guy.

You don't want to finish last, ever. Call it a silly pride thing.

I'm more upset at wins than losses at this point. The only way something good comes from this year is if we get the top draft pick. Otherwise it's just a ****ty year where we were out of it since May but won just enough games that we didn't get the best player possible...but hey, on the good side, we could be fourth place!

Getting the top draft pick in baseball is not much of a perk, not nearly as it is in basketball or football. Even with a good draft pick as "consolation" for a horrible year, I would imagine that any pick in the top five or so would be good...We'll almost certainly be there.

Just suppose we get the top pick -- and find that the best players are all represented by Boras? What happens then?
