It appears that the Sox are headed for their first last place finish since 1989, it also appears that the Cubs are headed for a divisional title. Well, in 1989 the Cubs also won the division. The next year though, the Sox won 94 games and had their been the current divisional alignment they would have won a divisional title (hell had it not been for the juiced up A's they would have won a title). That year also marked the emergence of the White Sox as one of the best teams of the '90s (we came close in '91 and '92, won the division in '93 and would have won it again in '94...and then things went down hill after '94). So....take from that what you will.

Well I know I'd love to have some young players develop the way guys like Thomas, McDowell and Ventura did in the 90-91 seasons.

Yeah that kind of development doesn't happen to teams very often. What maybe Cleveland, the Yankees, the Twins and the White Sox? How many teams in the past 20-30 years have had that much talent come up in the same 5-10 year span?

Add Philly, Montreal, Atlanta, and Seattle to that last.

Chicago White Sox #1 Draft Picks
1987 Jack McDowell
1988 Robin Ventura
1989 Frank Thomas
1990 Alex Fernandez

2003 Brian Anderson
2004 Josh Fields
2005 Lance Broadway
2006 Kyle McCulloch
2007 Aaron Poreda

If the newer group can contribute the way the Himes group did I wouldn't worry about this team at all.

Those lists don't exactly make me too optimistic. :(:

I am excited about Josh Fields, though. If he can stay out of left field.
