View Full Version : Who has the worst, ugliest uniforms in MLB

Since we as White Sox fans have to endure the worst season in quite some time, we might as well take someone else down with us.

We already know the silver and black have MLB's best uniforms. But who, in your opinion, has the worst?

State your opinion.

I have to say it's a tie between The Toronto Blue Jays of Canada, and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

The Pirates red vests or the Rockies black vests.

I second that one. Also the Twins (I dislike road unis with pin stripes). I never liked the North Side Chicago Baseball Club unis either.

Nationals and Diamondbacks (both old scheme and new one) look like crap from the 80's. I hate teams that also try to "modernize" themselves, ala the Blue Jays. Also, any team with a black alternate should abolish it (D'Backs, Marlins, Mets especially, Blue Jays)

Toronto has the 2nd worst unis. But I especially despise the Orioles road and alternate jerseys. The black with orange lettering only works for Halloween. And the gray with orange lettering doesn't look much better. However, their home unis are fine.

I used to really like their logo, thought it one of the coolest in baseball, with the maple leaf and the bird. That was when I despised their team; Joe Carter, Roberto Alomar, John Olerud, et al. Now I don't mind the team, and their logo looks downright amateur.

I have to go Devil Rays. No team should wear a vest that often, let alone one that is that ugly. Runners up: Blue Jays, Diamondbacks (although the red is okay), Brewers (hate the font for some reason). I don't mind the Padres that much, but in general, I'm not sure why teams are trying to emulate NBA jerseys when they redesign their uniforms. It seems like the uniforms that are most successful commercially are those that invoke some sort of tradition, even if building off the old.

I'm thinking the Blue Jays, but there are a couple of pretty bad ones out there...this may take a day or two for me to think of...Oh god! How could I forget! The Mets! When they wear blue they have one of the best unis in baseball but that black on blue looks is just disgusting.

Well, in all fairness, although they are ugly, they only wear them once or twice a year, I believe, to honor the military, namely, the huge contingent of Navy / Marine Corps folks that are in San Diego due to the Navy base there. I think they let anyone in uniform in for free, or very reduced ticket prices on those days.

I don't get why teams don't go back to a retro logo if they're more popular. Milwaukee's 80's scheme is obviously extremely popular yet the won't go back. Blue Jays championship scheme is extremely popular, yet they scrapped it in favor for minor league ripoffs. What gives?

The Nationals' unis are pretty weak, like their team.

No way! Their uniforms are tight. I like the red with block, the cursive alternate... They look good.

We were at the NATS a few weekends ago to see them against the Mets (happened to be in the area visiting family) and we actually picked up a few hats because we digged their look (and hate all things NY).

Tampa Bay, OTOH is a disgrace.

Their hats are alright, they're actually pretty good...the uniforms, OTOH, look they were designed in Microsoft Word.

I think they should go to a more Detroit-like design, with the W. I think the cleaner, the more professional. All these new uniforms with their fancy fonts (Nationals, D'Backs, Padres, Blue Jays), just look terrible. Simplicity is key to a good uniform. The best in baseball do not have much to them (Yankees, Tigers, both Sox, Dodgers).

One thing that I hope my hometown Cincinnati Reds will do is get rid of their road cap with the black bill, and just wear the all-red cap at home and on the road. I guess they couldn't totally do away with their color scheme from the late '90's.

I think the Pirates ought to wear parrots, eye patches and pirate hats. They also should have to bat with a cutlass. Padres uniforms should be clerical vestments, or at least have the collar, and the Astros should have to wear orange astronaut suits and helmets to allow Minute Maid Park to be depressurized.

I don't know about others, but I don't mind teams that use red in their uniforms, such as the Reds and Red Sox. Thats your scheme, it always has been. I'm talking about teams like the Braves and Pirates who wear red when it has no reason to be worn. I also dislike the all red alternates the Red Sox wear. The Nationals are just lame. They look like boring generic all star jersies. The Rockies are ugly, but what do you expect when your colors are purple and black?

The real crime is the Mets and Brewers and Blue Jays. The Mets should just go back to Orange and Blue. The Brewers should get rid of the ugly dark blue and gold and go back to the MB glove logo and color scheme. The Blue Jays have like zero blue in their jersies. The Black shirts suck, they too should go back to the old logo and color scheme.

Arizona's new ones look pretty lame too.

Between the Bears, Sox, Bulls and Cubs I'd say we've got it pretty good uniform wise in Chicago.

I'll respectfully disagree. I think the Nats' unis are pretty cool. In fact when I was in DC this summer, I bought a Nats' road jersey. I especially like the caps with the curly 'W' since they pay homage to the Senators.

As for the ugliest, the Pirates' red vests are horrendous. I like the vests in general since they're something of a throwback, but those red unis...Nope.

I also agree about the Mets and Jays needing to do something. What was wrong with Toronto having royal blue caps?

At least the Royals have seemed to phase black out of their color scheme. There's nothing wrong with royal blue and white as your base colors (unless you play on the North Side of Chicago).

I absolutely agree about the Cubs home whites yet it is usually rated as one of the better uniforms whenever "best" lists come out. (No idea why) The Cubs road greys aren't bad and actually is their best uniform of the last 20 yrs in my opinion. However, the hat with the red brim has got to go. What site did you get these images from?

I've seen those on wikipedia. I don't know if there's another website that some people got it from.

Nothing wrong with a classic uni with touches of red...something very wrong with all red uniforms. Ugh.

That looks like something a kid would wear. Or some kind of kids toy. I do believe that gets my vote for worst uniform.

I know there have been some pretty bizarre uniforms in the past, however I think our own White Sox started the modern era "alternate jersey" epidemic.

Don't get me wrong, I love the black jersey and really liked it when they made the original debut in the early 90s after opening Comiskey II. If I remember correctly, they originally wore them only on Sunday home games and then expanded them into a rotatable third jersey.

I like the idea of a team using their primary color for a third alternate jersey, however the recent run of black shirts got old - i.e. Mets, A's, Rockies, Blue Jays and Royals just to name a few. The black looks good for the SOX as Black/Silver are the primary colors.

The goofy secondary color look like the Pirates Red and Rockies Purple look horrible IMO. That would be like the Cubs wearing red alternates.

If we were going all sports, nothing is better than the Hawks' white uniforms.

..besides their red ones.

start here (http://exhibits.baseballhalloffame.org/dressed_to_the_nines/introduction.htm)

Then you can click on uniform database link for specific teams. But I like the original link because it's got more historical information.

Pirates red vest is the worst, no doubt. But I also agree that the Cubs home unis look really cheesy.

Don't forget the Hawks!

well the Blue pinstripes ones look good IMO, the solid blue ones are meh. And even though I have paid zero attention to them the last five years, the Hawks still have a cool jersey. Both the red and black sweaters look cool to me, I hope they never change that logo. Because there are some UGLY hockey jersies out there. Even the C with the two tomahawks is cool.

I actually prefer the red or black ones (the whites are good too) but there is no doubt the Blackhawks have the best uniforms and logo in all of hockey. It is the only thing we have left to cheer for.
