I just picked it up off Amazon last week, and I came to page 154, which is filled with quotes by our own Hal Vickery. I don't remember anyone else mentioning this here. Hal did a nice job.

The book is pretty good so far, but the author made some mistakes in the beginning, especially describing the World Series parade. He talked about State Street being mobbed, which made me wonder if he was actually there. One other thing that bothered me is that he talked about Old Comiskey having white bricks when it was built in 1910, which I'm pretty sure wasn't true. I thought Veeck was the first person to whitewash the exterior after he bought the team.

"All I remember is letting out a big whoop." Vickery said of the moment-of-truth triumph over the Houston Astros. "I just couldn't believe it. My eyes watered during the trophy presentation. It was, 'After 50 years, finally.'"

Yes. I LOVE IT!!! Can you believe that the White Sox were FORCED to biuld their field where it is? I read that an I went crazy. I was in shock, angry, and laughing like crazy all at the same time. I'm gonna rub that in the C***s fans faces when they say how bad the area is. I ACTUALLY LIVE THERE!!!!

Yes, I have the book. But I've only gotten through the first four chapters. In my line of work, I do a lot of reading. Once I step away from the office, I don't always want to read for fun. So it takes me awhile to get through books sometimes.

Hmmm...I don't remember being interviewed for that book, but maybe I was. A lot of people were calling me up then. Is it available on Amazon?

The thing about the white bricks reminds me of the guy who wrote a book about Joe Jackson back in the early '90s who got all of his information about Comiskey Park from Green Cathedrals and wrote that Comiskey had installed the shower in centerfield when it was built. He repeated it in an interview on The Score with Mike Murphy, and when Murphy tried to correct him, telling him the Bill Veeck had installed the shower in 1960, he stuck with his story.

In a sense the Sox were forced to build the ball park where it is because of the failed referendum in Addison.

Wow. Do you think he took quotes from one of your articles here without consent? I can't believe you didn't know you're quoted in this book. He literally spends an entire page on you.

I think the poster was referring to the location of Old Comiskey. One of the contingencies on the part of Charles Comiskey's deal to bring the St. Paul team here was that he wouldn't build the playing field any farther north than 35th Street. He got back at the north side club (according to the book), by picking the name "White Stockings."

I hear you on that. The only real reading I ever do is either at the airport or on a plane...I haven't read this book, but I did read the WSI published World Series book, and it was a great read!

I'm glad this did not happen. Not just because of geography, but could you imagine the name?

They would have been The Chicago White Sox of Addison!!
