Theres more but you get the point. I am sick of that stereotype that Sox fans (and only Sox fans) run on the field, I guess were the only ones who get it covered. Not to mention other sports, especially across the world. When the team does go good, it seems like this is the only ammo people have, so feel free to bookmark this and use it whenever you need.

In the past couple of years, I think it's happened more at Wrigley than here.

The Ligue incident will live in infamy and tarnish our reputation forever. It's not right nor fair but the media will never let those two hunks of white trash go.

I didn't click on any of these, nor will I. The stereotype of the trailer-trash Sox fan has been perpetuated to the point of nausea. We all know it's a bunch of bull****.

But guess what? If push came to shove, I would much rather be a trailer-trash loser than a Cubs season-ticket holder.

I was watching Keith Olberman tonight and he had a guy on who was talking about Bonds HR and Glavine's 300th win. He talked about how Glavine was universally admired, unlike Bonds. Then he said something I thought nobody would have the cajones to say: "He even got an ovation from the fans at Wrigley Field, and you know how bad they can be at a night game."

Keith doesn't work for ESPN anymore, he can says what he feels like. Heck after the way he goes after Bush/Cheney he better have the guts to go after Cub fans.

Contrast that with last night's Sportscenter that said something about the "always classy and polite" Cub fans giving Glavine a nice reception. And I didn't sense any sarcasm when he said it. I almost threw up.

They'll be forgotten. Eventually...does anyone remember the name of the guy who charged Randy Myers at Wrigley? It will be forgotten eventually, just need a few more titles!!!

Since we're already in WTS, I can think of at least 4 incidents off the top of my head where a fan attacking a player (not always successful) has happened on the Northside, but yeah, the running on the field happens everywhere, as seen as none of those links are Wrigley, the Trib just puts it on the front page when it happens at the Cell.

By the way, the 4 do not include the possibility that the times it's happened here that it's been Cub fans, and I know it was at least once, as I remember it was after a rare Cub/Sox both a home day/night thing, and the fan's blue cap fell as he went on the field, and it was swept away. I think he even admitted he was drunk from the Cubs game, but no one went with that quote

Or the guy who threw the knife at Wally Joyner in Yankee Stadium?

When Glavine was lifted from the game Sunday, the Cub fans were already gone and at the bars across the street. The standing O was from all the New Yorkers who came to see the series.

Or contrast that (again) with the later opinion that the Cub fans were cheering the return of Carrie Wood and not the departure of Glavine.

The Sun-Times just had a story on this mope a week ago or so. It seems that this guy is the genius behind the "It's Gonna Happen!" battle cry/catch phrase that is apparently getting printed on signs, hats, t-shirts, etc. I heard/read somewhere that the Cub brass, willing to carry a grudge, do not want this guy's signs to appear on the air.

Back to the original topic, I would not really expect to hear chapter and verse about fans for other teams running onto the field from our media, so I don't necessarily agree that said stereotype exists. Maybe MLB should spearhead a national law for stiffer penalties for running onto the field of play.

Hell, it's happened more at Wrigley this year than it has at the Cell since the Ligue incident.

Houston sportswriter xxxxxx Justice (?), my mind's only partially shot. Did you notice that Olbermann used the "Wrigley Field" sign parodied in the banner of this forum in his opening montage to indicate that the broadcast was originating from Chicago? Why not the exploding scoreboard?

Pauly's song is "Harvester of Sorrow" by Metallica

Tiger fans can commiserate with the Ligue stuff. You'd think Detroit's the only city to ever have a riot after winning a championship. LA did. Montreal did. Denver did. Yet all the national pundits ever talk about is the 1984 riot. Detroit's won 6 major sports titles since then, not to mention about a half dozen national championships between Michigan and Michigan State and things have been relatively peaceful. But 1984 is all they talk about.

Plus the Detroit Shock won 2 WNBA Titles.
