Could someone set up a polll for me?
Will Dye re-sign or Get traded before sept or Leave us as a FA?

isnt it odd resign (quit) and Re-Sign (rejoin sign a contract) are spelled the same?

He's not going to be traded, because he's not going to clear waivers.

For the right price, I wouldn't be totally opposed to re-signing him.

Could someone set up a polll for me?I did it, but it's not that hard to do yourself.

Dye will not be traded for the previously mentioned reason. I'd re-sign him at a fair price, something like $30 million over three years.

I voted for returning to the Sox, but I have to admit that I had some reservations. Will the real JD please stand up...the one that appeared to have aged 5 years since 2006 over the first 3+ months of the season, or the red-hot bat since the All-Star break?

And in a related matter, I would just like to congratulate all of the parties involved...JD, his agent, and KW...for keeping negotiations OUT of the media, for now at least.

All depends on what he wants. Before this year, he was going to get a 4/60ish type deal. Now, that's not so likeley. Lets see what KW can negotiate.

Please add to the poll:

5. Do you think WSI poster's are the most fickle fans in history?

I vote yes.

Cut him off that stake and sign the man to a 3 year deal!!!!!!!! He is hotttttt.... well not as hot as he was when we were gonna burn his ass.... but still his is pretty hot right now!

Good grief.

He played the first half like he is 45. Looks like he was playing through an injury. Temporary muscle pull or long term deterioration of his legs? Makes all the difference, and I can't tell. Can KW?

There is high risk involved in having both Dye and Thome in the lineup in 2008. Both have shown greater incidence of injury.

I am risk adverse; if I am KW I do not enter 2008 depending on both Dye & Thome.

We need to re-sign JD. I look for it to happen too.

What does his defense look like these days? I've heard that it's in rapid deterioration (don't know if that's true), which would suggest to me LF, PH, DH.

I thought he was more along the lines of 4/48 if he replicated last year (which of course he hasn't).

I guess if I had to choose, I would choose Dye. I say this because Thome is a DH. Dye actually plays a position. That would fill a BIGGER whole. Well, if Dye is gone, we could play Sweeney. Who gets paid more? Thome or Dye? I am guessing Thome.

I did it, but it's not that hard to do yourself.

Keep in mind who we're dealing with.

I like the idea of re-signing JD, but I'm skeptical the Sox can afford another $10 million on the payroll and still have enough money to fill the smaller holes on the team.

I don't see how we're getting much salaryrelief (maybe $4-$5 mill with a minimum salary bench), so I agree.

And I think 3/30 is high for Dye; too many years and too much per year.

My guess is that he'll leave via FA after the year. The Sox will be reluctant to pay him what he'll be asking for and we need a little more speed in the lineup.

Sox don't have a lot of choice. They need a RFer with power, and he's the most viable option. Sign him.

Sign him to a two year deal. Decent salary ($7-8MM) with lots of incentives. 3rd year kicks in if he has 500 ABs in year 2. Move him to LF...then he replaces Thome at DH when Thome moves on.

He's a solid guy, one of the best OFs the WSox have had in the 30+ years I've been a fan, and will be a more cost effective option vs. the FA market. It also allows us to focus on plugging some other critical holes we'll have to deal with like shortstop, 5th starter, bullpen, etc.
