I was just watching the CSN White Sox Postagme Show. Their poll question was, "Do you think the Sox will finish ABOVE .500?"

THE RESULTS:
96.2% YES

3.8% NO

What do you guys think? Not talking about playoffs, just finishing at .500.

IMO, we will be over .500 :D:

If the Sox keep on the current trend of 2 out of 3 games, then yes.

Look, we are not a bad team. If we had even an average bullpen, we would be over .500 right now. The center of our line-up, Thome, Konerko, and Dye, are all hitting now. That is almost all we need to win. And our bullpen has been much better. Our biggest problem has been the starters as of late (figures, right?). I say we will place somewhere in the mid 80's in wins, in a "race" for third with the twins.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. :D:

There is a ton of baseball left. Nobody in the Central is scary good right now.

We've definitely improved since the ASB and let's just hope it continues.

No, I don't think we will be over .500, but I hope so. I'll keep watching and hoping. Give 'em a finish and play with pride, no matter what.

'Atta boy. All you can ask for. Play hard and play proud.

This is a good club and it's been more fun watching them the last month than any other time this season, IMO.

I think we have a chance to finish with a better record than the Cubs. Not that it would mean a lot, but it would at least put a lot of wahoos in their place.

Yeah. they'll be over .500.

Deep pink? You really think the Sox are going 34-18 the rest of the year? :o:

No.

31-21 the rest of the way? I suppose it's possible, but I wouldn't bet on it.

It's not out of the question...I think with the way our hitting has been of late, I could see us somehow winning 83 games.

I have been telling my friend at work (Cubs fan) for a few weeks that the Sox will still finish above .500 (in response to him saying the Sox were the worst team in baseball). I honestly believe they will. In the past several years, they played bad down the stretch, but the minute they were eliminated and had nothing to play for, they started kicking ass. I think the second half is going to be the Sox loose and having fun, beating on playoff contenders with "tight sphincters".
And of course, the best part of them waking up so late, we will have an entire off-season of the fans saying "if they could have just woken up two weeks earlier...":D:

Though the Sox have played better lately, they're only 12-12 since the All Star break. They'll have to do a lot better than that to finish .500.

The whole division has been mediocre or worse since the break:

Tigers 10-14
Indians 10-12
Twins 11-10
Royals 10-11

Yes. The pressure is off. 34-18 is doable. Opposing teams fear a resurgent Sox club, not because the Sox are going to make the playofs, but because the Sox could hurt their playoff chances.

I bet they finish within 7 or 8 games of a playoff spot, and many of us will start pointing to individual games that should have gone the other way and individual players who cost the Sox a chance at the postseason.

Right now anything can happen in this division. Detroit might be in the same shape as we were last year with starting pitching fatigue since they made the WS last year. The Twinkies are grumbling that management isnt doing enough to go all the way. We just might finish 2nd and with a miracle finish win the division.

The Sox are due for a run and they could end up at .500 at the end of the season.

I think it's their goal right now and I believe they'll achieve it.

That is how I felt EXACTLY after and sometimes during 2006. :(:

Thats good enough to win the World Series a year ago!

500 will make me happy with this season...shows a bright future for the likes of Danks, Owens, Richar, and Fields....

Wouldn't be out of the question, IMO. They're not the same team that they were during that 5-22 stretch. Their lineup is actually completely different. It's not station-to-station baseball anymore...we've got some youth and speed. Not to mention the bullpen has been pretty good lately (knock on wood).

It was enough to win an incredibly weak division, 83 wins isn't going to win us the AL Central.

Exactly. 83 W's might win a division in the NL, but it won't even give you a sniff of post-season play in the AL

One game at a time, see how the youth does, and we'll see what happens. Jose sitting from the rotation temporarily will help.

I think the Sox can get to .500. They're only 7 games under, and if they keep this up, they certainly can.

Why are Sox fans talking smack about the NL this year? They sure whooped our ass.

I think that it is highly unlikely -- possible, sure, but just not very likely. The sweep of Detroit was nice, but we also lost 2 horrible games earlier in the week to the NYY. Detroit is struggling, while the Yankees were hot. How much does either series say about the Sox?
