After these 4 games, and this inept game tonight, is this team just mediocre or are we underachieving under this manager?

It better be underachieving or we're in for a long season!

Well, I don't think we can make a case for either of your points after 4 games. But something good came out of this game, 4 scoreless innings by the pen.
we just got to come out and take the last 2 for a series win. sigh... but we looked awful didn't we..4 errors, frank looks bad, its not clicking yet. We only scored 2 damn runs?! We have to do better than that, sheesh :whiner:

Shaky pitching, untimely hitting, somewhat shaky fielding...the Sox just aren't playing well AS A UNIT right now.

Hopefully it will turn around, and soon.

Stranding runners is killing this team.

Well, I know its only been 4 games and I worry a little easy, but this is looking almost exactly like 2001. When our bullpen is good, our offense is bad and our starting pitching is bad. When our starting pitching and hitting is good, our bullpen fails. If this keeps up we will see exactly what we saw in 2001, a disappointment. I'm not saying we are going to do that, we can easily turn things around. It just depends if we do or not. Historically, the teams leading the divison at the end of April usually win the divison.

Couldn't agree more. Hey, how come people aren't saying Fire Ken Williams, Fire Jerry Manuel, Fire Nardi, Fire Pettis, Trade Clayton for a box of Kleenex, like they normally do? Things are actually calm here.

yeah, that's what I've been noticing. Today we played bad D, starting pitcing sucked, and our 'O' sucked it up with bad base running and no clutch hitting. But what do ya know, the problem we've had the last 3 games that has cost or almost cost us does good tonight... The pen. I hate losing to the crappy Royals and if Ihave to see Joe Randa and that stupid grin again I'm gonna choke him.
(a little angry right now :gulp: )

LOL!!! Hey, we're thinking on the same page...man, I hate Randa so much, if I was a pitcher, I would bean him in the mouth every time he got up there...I also HATE Bret Boone...especially the way he flips his bat...I'm going to bean him too...

Thomas and Ordonez need to start hitting the ball, period. If/when that happens, the offense should click.

Speaking of Thomas he looks like 2000 Playoffs Frank. Either a pop up or nothing. Bad.

I would love to see Pettis replaced, and I was the first, last season in May,that wanted Nardi tarred and feathered and shipped out of town in a boxcar full of swine,my position has not changed.

I agree. You know, Big Frank has not recovered from the 2000 playoff thing yet. Before he got hurt last year he wasn't hitting either. He knows it too.

Not only 2000 playoff Frank, but '98 and '99. Maybe he should go back to that slightly open stance, shouldn't he?

PS: and i'm up to the 6th paragraph of your sig, i might finish it by Monday!

I have said it on this board before and I will say it again: Frank
Thomas is D-O-N-E. His time as one of the premiere hitters in
baseball is over. A shame. I want so badly for him to do well and
shove it down the throats of certain people who foam at the
mouth at the mention of his name, hung a rotten nickname on
him in the name of being "hard-hitting" and did their ample best
to run him out of town. Ain't gonna happen. I see him hitting
.260 with about 15 homers, tops. If that.

If I recall, Harris and Kenny were not the only ones running. All of a sudden, it's the solo home run mentality again.

I just remember last year how we all kept saying "it's only 5 games into the season, chill out" and then "it's only been 10 games" and then "only 20 games in"... and the next thing you know we're 15 games under .500. I REALLY don't want to see another start like last year's. These next 2 games are big IMO. We leave KC 1-5 and we're in trouble.

If they're way below .500 in May, then worry.

At least the pitching didn't blow this one tonight!!!!! LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL (although Garland looked like his usual self)

You know for the past few years a lot of Sox fans and some of the Chicago media have been saying this is a "poorly constructed" team. Lots of hitters, very little pitching, no defense and no fundamentals. When that is brought up we get answers like Manager Gandhi's last September when he said he didn't care if the Sox finished last on defense.

I think I have a possible answer to this and just wondered what you think.

Like with everything else involving the Sox it revolves around money. Here's what I mean...hitters today are a dime a dozen. Everybody has them and in a relative sense they are a lot cheaper to come by. Now good pitching and defensive specialists are a lot harder to find. Every team wants them and the price to get them goes way up.

The Sox figure since they don't have (or won't spend ) the money needed to get good pitchers and fielders, that they'll take the easier way out and get a bunch of hitters to beat teams to death.

You can see the results for yourself on this appraoch.

Any thoughts on this?????

Also is it just me or is Raul Ibanez turned into a Sox killer along the lines of Joe Mays and Craig Pauquette????? Ibanez KILLS the Sox and does squat against the rest of the league.

By the way, the Tigers haven't won a game yet. Do ya think they'll make the Sox their first victim???

But remember....."Come Ready To Play!"

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL
