August 4, 1920 - Roughly a month and a half before the Black Sox scandal broke, "Shoeless" Joe Jackson has the game of his life. Jackson drives home eight RBIís in a 10 - 3 pounding of the Yankees at Comiskey Park.

August 4, 1985 - On the same day Rod Carew got his 3,000th hit in Anaheim, Sox pitcher Tom Seaver wins his 300th career game. Seaver beats the Yankees 4 - 1. He gets late inning defensive help when Harold Baines climbs the right field wall to rob Dave Winfield of an extra base hit with men on base. Seaver retired Don Baylor, on a fly to left for the final out of the game. The ball was caught by Reid Nichols.

August 4, 1992 - The White Sox set the franchise record by scoring nine runs in the 3rd inning of a game in Chicago against the Twins. Wilson Alvarez gets the win as the Sox won 19 - 11. George Bell had five RBIís.

August 4, 1993 - After years of getting brush back pitches thrown at Sox hitters from Nolan Ryan, Robin Ventura snaps in the 3rd inning of a game in Texas and charges the mound. Ryan gets the better of the fight but Ventura and his teammates find strength from the brawl and use it during the stretch run which would lead to a divisional title.

August 4, 2000 - Carlton Fisk is inducted into the Baseball Hall Of Fame. Even though Fisk played more games and spent more years with the White Sox, he goes in wearing the colors of the Red Sox. Fisk explains to the Chicago media, that his choice in no way reflected any animosity towards White Sox fans but was based in part on his treatment by the organization and ownership.

It didn't hurt Ryan's cause that his catcher held Ventura from behind while Ryan jabbed Ventura in the head.

The clips I've seen show Nolan putting Ventura in a headlock without the help of the catcher, but maybe I'm remembering it wrong.

I think that is correct. The catcher-Petralli, IIRC-got there a few steps after Robin (someone slower than Robin-go figure!)

I know fans thought it was pretty funny that Old Man Ryan gave the young Ventura an extended noogie, but I bet you Robin's stock in the baseball community went through the roof when he did that. Ryan's rep prevented managers, umpires, and most players from doing anyhting about his headhunting, and RV finally did something about it.

What record was set in the Sox-Twins game? It wasnt runs in an inning. The Sox back in the 50s scored 11 runs on 1 hit against the old KC As.

Nell:

Re read the post, it was runs scored in the 3RD INNING. In the future I'll highlight the inning since there are records for each of the nine innings.
