Well no pennant stretch run this year (sigh) but still a lot of other notable events from past August's.

Including the strange end to a Mark Buehrle streak, Carlton Fisk's 'two for the price of one' play, Tom Seaver's 300th win, the debut for a kid named Frank Thomas, Robin Ventura's big 'fight', the games where Jack Harshman and Billy Pierce each threw 16 INNINGS, the night two of the smallest guys in franchise history went back to back off Nolan Ryan, Carlos May's military accident, the classic four game series in August 1972 at Oakland, Wilson Alvarez' gem, the night the lights went out on a season, the day there was a seven hour rain delay, Carlton Fisk's record setting home run, Dick Allen's bleacher shot and the strangest game ever played in Baltimore (and that's saying something!) ...welcome to August.

August 1, 1983 - On a nationally televised ABC Monday Night Baseball game, Greg Luzinski drives a Ray Fontenot pitch over the left field roof at Comiskey Park. It’s "The Bull’s" second roof shot in 1983 and the first home run ever allowed by Fontenot in his career. The Sox would win the game 4 - 1.

August 1, 2003- The Sox win their 8,000 game in franchise history as they bury the Mariners in Seattle 12 - 1.

August 1, 2005 - Pitcher Mark Buehrle’s streak of 49 straight starts with six or more innings ends when he is thrown out of a game in Baltimore by umpire Brian Gorman. "Hawk" Harrelson is extremely upset in the booth (you’ve GOT to be kidding me!) Buehrle gets tossed without warning for hitting B.J. Surhoff. The Sox would get the last laugh however winning the game and sweeping the four game series.

IIRC, that was the same day that Rafael Palmeiro got caught for taking steroids.

You are correct. I remember someone here found it as a rumor on another message board. Sure enough, it was true.
