View Full Version : Gustavo Molina Claimed by O's

Per rotoworld:
Orioles claimed catcher Gustavo Molina off waivers from the White Sox.
Molina, 25, opened the year as Toby Hall's replacement in Chicago and went 1-for-18 while backing up A.J. Pierzynski. He was hitting .209/.265/.281 in 139 at-bats for Triple-A Charlotte. He's a quality defender, but he'd make Orioles fans yearn for Paul Bako if he took over as the team's No. 2 catcher next year. He'll be assigned to Triple-A Norfolk.

They probably think he's one of the Molina brothers. Or maybe they had a good experience with Chris Widger......

Clearing a roster spot on July 30 could be a sign of a multi-player trade coming. Otherwise this is a strange time to put someone on your 40-man roster through waivers.

Yes, I agree that the timing is a bit strange. You would expect it, I don't know, two days from now. Not a day before the trading deadline though. That makes little sense.

He's a classic case of a hitter being completely overmatched at the major league level.

Remember, pretty much everyone goes through waivers at one point, just to gauge interest.

Gosh, Triple Threat Sports is going to be so mad when I call in to cancel my jersey order.

One thing he could do is catch.
I know he couldn't hit a lick, but defense seems to be of diminshed importance to the Sox lately.
