Hard to believe, but it actually happened.

Did he crash into a wall diving for a kid?

Or did he roll their Power Wheels upside down in the offseason?

That's unfortunate. Seriously.

I know nothing about this and would never suspect Aaron Rowand of dishonesty. But if this happened to someone else -- Jeff Kent, for example -- people would suspect that the playing-tag-with-the-kids story was a cover for something that would have been in violation of his contract.

You beat me to it. My first thought "were the kids on the other side of a wall?"

My second thought is "sign those kids!"

Wow, what a guy:
"Jul 27 Philadelphia Phillies OF Aaron Rowand (shoulder) was unavailable for the game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Friday, July 27, after tweaking his left shoulder while playing tag with neighborhood kids the previous day, according to Todd Zolecki of the Philadelphia Inquirer."

I can see those who so adore Aaron Rowand so much praying the rosary right now, nonstop. The round-the-clock Novenas are in full swing, I bet.

But I guess being a cop for 25 years makes one cynical.

I didn't realize God could get hurt unless it was running into a wall, saving the world.

Jeff Kent is a one of a kind idiot though.

The only thing I like Kent for is fighting Bonds. But both of those guys are jackoffs.

He was probably fighting Galactus from devouring our world.

Must have taken a bad route to the kid he was after.

Do you think when Jim Edmonds plays tag that he tags the kid, then flops/dives/falls over to make it more dramatic?

Must have taken a bad route to the kid he was after.

But he was still able to make the diving tag.

In all seriousness, the days when major leaguers would frequently stop in on neighborhood sandlot and stickball games are sorely lacking in today's atmosphere. Injury concerns, contracts, and the total business mentality has taken a big chunk out of the player/fan relationship.

So if Rowand, in his walk year, took the time to play with kids and just hang out, good for him.

That is a throwback to an era long, long, gone, and gives those kids a story they can tell until they are greybeards.

I don't know where you live now, but I think another part of that reason is I haven't seen kids playing pickup baseball in a LONG time

I live about a mile east of you and I see it all the time.

I rolled through my old neighborhood on saturday and went by the old ball field to see that it hadn't been played on probably at all this year. Pretty sad to see. When I was growing up I didn't even call people to play, it was show up after you get up, play until you get hungry then come back after lunch. That's what I did all summer long for many many years.

Getting hurt while playing tag with neighborhood kids?

Man, Philly is a rough town.

And this is the person many Sox fans think his absence has costed us going back to the World Series last year and is costing us our suckingness this year.

I'm glad, Mike, you're finally realizing the errors of your opinions. :redneck
