That's a blow to the Cardinals. I believe this offseason he was given an extension through 2011.

Thats a big blow to the Cardinals. We should start to look to trade Contreas to STL.

Will he miss any or all of 08?

I think that typical recovery time for Tommy John surgery is 18 months. If so, he'll miss pretty much all of 2008.

According to my dad, there is an operation named after me, and it involves the removal of the head from the anus.

Are you sure that Tommy John isn't having Chris Carpenter surgery?

Dad must be so proud.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch...TJ surgery has become relatively routine, relatively speaking. He'll just need to take the time needed for a full recovery. Sucks for StL, though, that's still real dough they're out there.

Not only $$$, but a #1 starter. Their rotation is simply in shambles. Who will they rely on, Mark Mulder?

Jose Contreras.

I hope so, he needs a chance to shine. I have his autograph card from one of the Topps Traded and Rookies sets from a few years back. OTOH, maybe Contreras is the piece they are looking for.
