Santana

Prospect: I don't know. I don't really follow the minor league.

Johan Santana
Roy Oswalt
Josh Beckett

Hunter Pence [not really a prospect anymore but is still a rookie]

... while I think Alex Rodriguez is the best player by far, I'd still prefer to stack as much premium SP to build around, and the best young kid to go get the ball in CF.

Oops, my bad. I'll take Tim Lincecum, the young fireballer from the Giants. He had a great duel earlier in the year with Cole Hamels. Those guys have some lively arms.

Peavy

Prospect: Brian Bogusevic, P, Houston: Big lefty who throws hard and was Houston's No. 1 pick in 2005. Plus, I work for his godfather and have gotten to meet his family. Really nice people. I hope Bogusevic does well when he gets to the bigs in a year or two.

Reyes (with Hanley Ramirez not far behind) young, 5 tools at premium position
Maurer - for the same reason as above
Pujols

Lincecum is technically not a prospect anymore, so I would go with Bucholtz

I would pick Santana to anchor my rotation. Does anyone think the Twins will actually give him enough to stay? I could easily see NY, Boston, or LA giving him $16-18 mil a year for 6 years.

Barry Zito got that, and Johan Santana >>>> Barry Zito.

Unless he gives the Twins a hometown discount (at about that $18 million range), I just don't see it. They can't put their entire payroll in one guy. I know they can develop players well, but that's just too much to ask, you need some vets in there too.
