And why, I do not know. For a guy that has all that talent, he hasn't done a damn thing with it.

Surprise, surprise. He's still not a good manager. Neither is his boy Shapiro a good GM.

These long-term deals are just NOT making sense.

Ask the mid-90s Colorado Rockies how locking guys up for eternity is working out.

Yes, it's fine to lock up a solid core, but they now have almost half of their lineup controlled until 2010, what if Hafner tears an ACL, what if the team gets old in a hurry. They are spending all this money and still don't have a bullpen or a solid starting rotation.

Let's just say their 'championship core' will never get the job done, and they'll be right back on the rebuilding block in 5-10 years.

Oh come on now, he's done pretty well since taking over in 2001. He pulled off the Bartolo Colon trade that brought Grady Sizemore, Cliff Lee and Brandon Phillips to Cleveland in 2002 - the textbook definition of a fleecing. He also got Hafner from the Rangers for virtually nothing. All of their key players except Sabathia are signed to favorable contracts through at least the 2009 season. And his team's total payroll is $40MM lower than ours.

He screwed up by giving away Phillips and letting Guthrie walk, and he'll probably regret the Kouzmanoff/Barfield trade. But overall he is a very good GM.
