Wonder if this is the end of his career. I gotta say if I were KW, there's no way I'd make a deal for him.

Step 1: Sign Carl Everett
Step 2: Sign Robbie Alomar
Step 3: Trade for Julio Franco
Step 4: Everett, Alomar and Franco to the Phils for Aaron Rowand.

Franco is determined to play in the Majors until he is 50 years old. For him, it's not about money; he believes that he was chosen by God to show people that if they just take care of their bodies, they can accomplish anything.

I'm sure he'll keep on playing as one team after another signs him for the minimum as a gamble or as a PR move.

I think him and Jose Contreras are about the same age.

Julio is in better shape, though.

I agree...someone like Pittsburg or maybe even a team like Tampa will take him. Just so they can be the team that said we put a fifty year old man out on the field.

I honestly think he might be worth a shot, might spark the team with some good veteran guidance.

I doubt it. He's exactly what this team doesn't need. You also owe MDF $50

Ponder this for a second, would you rather have him or Cintron on the Sox right now? :D:

Depends on whether or not Gonzalez can play SS. I think I'd lean Cintron because Franco only plays 1B/DH, where we have no real issues. With Uribe & the possibility of Fields needing a breather every so often, I think Cintron provides more value, as hard as that is to believe.

Now if Franco can use his wheelchair to get around in the OF, it's another story!

Can he come out of the bullpen?

Get it done, Kenny!

Kenny should get Rickey Henderson while he's at it. That would solve our leadoff problems.

When Julio Franco broke into the MLB:

1. Teams like PIT, KC, BAL, and TOR were annual contenders.
2. MLB minimum salary was about 50K.
3. Average MLB salary was less than 500K
4. CLE, NYM, SEA, OAK were doormats
5. Interest rates were around or over double digits
6. A 4.00 ERA and less than 200 IP meant you were fighting for a job the next year, even if you won in double-digits
7. Lou Piniella, Mike Hargrove, Willie Randolph, Clint Hurdle, Ron Washington, Ron Gardenhire, and Buddy Bell were active players
8. Cal Ripken's consecutive game streak had just began
9. 30 HR's meant you were somewhere in the top five
10. Throwing 200 IP didn't make you a workhorse
11. Emission tests had not yet arrived to Illinois
12. Chicago did not have cable tv
13. Hitting .250 with 40-50RBI's was good enough for a 2B or SS
14. Julio Franco was a SS
