View Full Version : Giants looking to extend Sabean's contract?

Managing general partner Peter Magowan said in spring training that Sabean's fate would be decided after the season, suggesting the team's performance in 2007 would decide his fate. Even though the Giants are in last place in the National League West with a 38-48 record, Magowan apparently has had a change of heart and wants to make an effort to lock up Sabean sooner rather than later.
Last place in the NL West, the absolutely insane contract given to Zito, the Bonds scenario, etc. Why would they want to extend him?
This is surprising news.
A few weeks ago on Giants radio, I heard that 42 percent of the Giants at bats this year were taken by players 35 and older. Every problem we see in the White Sox seems amplified with the Giants at times this year. Maybe Giants fans see their problems amplified in White Sox frustrations. The Giants farm system is purported to be thinner, though. Signing Zito isn't a point against Sabean. It's like the only thing he gets credit for.
It isn't just an objective look at the team that inspires questions about extending Sabean. Listening to Giants postgame radio, it sounds like the fans and even some of the hosts believe it is a given he is on the way out. There are fans at WSI who want Kenny Williams fired, but I never hear any Sabean defenders.
Gets a 2 year extension.
I couls have swore I heard last week that it was just a matter of time until he got the boot.:dunno:

Can't understand why either. They're not very good at all, but have some good young pitching, excluding Zito. :?:
