Have at it.

I pick a 4-1 AL victory with Bib Papi winning MVP.

I know I would, ad most if not all of you would, want the AL to win the ASG. However, since the White Sox most likely will not make ito the playoffs, let alone the World Series, who would you now like to win the ASG. Is it still the AL or maybe it is the NL?

I want the AL to win!!!! LET'S GO AL!!! :D:

Griffey, Bonds, Howard, Prince I know the Sox are in the AL but becuase of those cause go National League.

Since the Sox are not going to be anywhere close to the World Series this year, go NL. I didn't start watching the ASG until 1998, so I've never seen them win.

Deal with it. What Frank Thomas is to the Sox, Pujols to the Cards, Jeter to the Yanks etc etc etc Barry Bonds is to the Giants. He is their franchise and one of if not thee best all around players this game has ever seen. That is with or without the assistance of performance enhancers. Not to mention most likely his final All Star Game.

Absolutely!

Does buck really need to emcee this thing? How about letting the regular PA announcer do their job! It would probably be a thrill for them, instead of moron joe buck monotoning his way through it. When the game goes to Yankee Stadium next year, is buck gonna announce the starters instead of the Yankee pa guy??

I didn't catch the ground rules. All he had to do was hit a baseball 280 feet in the air off a tee correct for the million dollars right? I'm sure the poor guy was nervous, but man, my daughter could hit it farther...:(:

If the Al lost and the Sox were to make the World Series in any season with this crazy rule, they would be a road team. That is reason enough to always cheer for the AL. Who the **** cares about the NL making a great play? Did you cheer for the great squeeze play in 2000 that knocked the Sox out of the playoffs?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

And I already said earlier in the thread that the Sox don't stand a chance to make it the World Series, so I don't care who wins.

If I'm going to cheer for a team, I'll cheer for the AL; did I care who won this year? It's not a big deal until you make it one. Also it's not a big deal when it deals with our team in the slightest of manner. I know a lot of Sox/Rowand fans that were glad he hit a grand slam off of our team. When a former player becomes more important than your team, there is a problem indeed.

This post is more my speed. This is one of the more exciting ASG's I've seen. I'm glad I kept watching after it seemed like the AL had it on lock-down. As soon as Hardy stepped on second and Bobby wasn't warming up, I knew that Leyland was going to leave it all on K-Rod's shoulders, win, lose or draw. With that said, I was very pissed that we didn't even get to see our only All-Star do what he's been doing all season.

How about the probability that without the assistance of performance enhancers, his final All Star Game would have been five or six years ago?

So what? He's a Sox farmhand...I'd be very happy for the guy. He'd likely be the All Star Game MVP and his hit would be remembered for years down the road. And it would be remembered on this board with such a vengeance that we'd have probably ended up setting a new record for bannings this week. I was praying he wouldn't get the game winner so we wouldn't have to deal with the wailing and gnashing of teeth.

I just got back from my local bar after watching the All Star Game. It was definitely split allegiance there with all the Sox fans rooting for the AL and all the Cubs fans rooting for the NL. I swear it's amazing to me how Cubs fans ignore most of the game and only look up when the game gets exciting. (Most of them weren't even paying attention until the 9th inning.) They were dancing a jig when the NL loaded the bases while a local Twins fan and I just shook our head in disbelief at how bad K-Rod was throwing. We got the last laugh as the AL won and the Cub fans scittered back to their rat holes. One of the beautiful things about the All Star game is for one day, bitter rivals like Twins and Sox can put aside our differences for the greater good of putting the NL in their place.

That being said, I'm surprised to see several of my White Sox bretheren on this board were rooting for the NL or didn't care who won. You guys are more than entitled to your opinions and obviously, we all care about the Sox first and foremost but it is sad to me that MLB is starting to succeed in making the AL/NL division meaningless in the eyes of the fans. I'm about 30 years old but I wonder if some of our WSI bretheren who were rooting for the NL or didn't care who won were younger fans? As a Sox fan, I was raised to always root for the AL in the All Star Game and the World Series. I despise the NL fan's superiority complex about their game being more "pure" and love it everytime the AL sticks it to the NL.

I didn't see or hear the game because I had class tonight. I heard about the results on the Giants station on my way home. I was glad to hear the AL won. The NL always won when I was a kid. I don't really care about the home-field advantage for the World Series at this point because depending on who is playing at the end, I may be pulling for the NL team to win.

I'm not upset that Jenks didn't get in the game. I don't believe he belonged on the team in the first place.

Yes, you've made that clear.

I should have been more specific. I don't believe that coming in with the tying or winning run in scoring position would have been a good situation for Jenks. I'm not so sure many White Sox fans would feel good about Jenks coming in from the bullpen in a regular season game with the game on the bases, as opposed to coming in at the start of an inning. If Jenks had come in at the end, he would have had a chance to be a minor hero or a major goat. If there's going to be a goat, I would prefer it be from another team.

At the same time, I prefer to see Sox pitchers rest during the All-Star break. If Buehlre had been on the team, I would have been happy if he hadn't pitched.

Same here. We also would have had the inevitable Bob Vanderberg article

That is the first thing that popped into my head when Rowand stepped up.

This is how I felt years ago [and mostly still do], and I'm not all that older than you. I vividly remember the NL run in the AS game through the '70s to '82, and it rankled me to no end.

In the first Rotisserie Baseball book that came out in the early '80s, there's parody between the NL president Chub Feeney & AL president Lee McPhail that had this exchange [paraphrasing];

Feeney: The AL is used to coming in second, especially in that midsummer classic.

McPhail: If you wake up a NL player in the middle of the night, the first thing out of his mouth, after the chaw, is "All Star game".

What pride? I have Sox Pride...who the hell has American League Pride? I cannot stand most American League teams, and the one's I can stand, I don't like either.

I hate NL baseball, but I don't think I have to have 'pride' in the AL.

What, you weren't beaming today after that huge AL win last night? Weren't you devastated last season after an NL team won the World Series? I know I contemplated whether life was still worth living after the AL lost in the World Series last season.

AL pride is ridiculous. I'm a baseball fan. My favorite team plays in the AL. The rest of the AL teams I either dislike or am pretty much indifferent toward. In fact, if I listed the top 10 teams I would want to win this years World Series, it would probably be the Sox followed by 9 NL teams. Why the hell should I care about the rest of the AL? Like I'm supposed to feel some sense of pride if the Sox suck but an AL team wins the World Series? Should I go out and get my "AL All-Star Champions" t-shirt? If an AL team wins the World Series, should I have a cap/t-shirt made flaunting the AL supremacy over the NL?

I'll freely admit I wanted Rowand to come through with a hit. I can't say I really rooted for either team. I rooted for players I like to come through, starting when my favorite player in baseball, Jake Peavy, took the mound in the 1st inning.

On the topic of the game, I have no clue why Pujols didn't pinch hit for Hudson. I thought that was a pretty obvious move. LaRussa said he would use Pujols at any position, but failed to back that up. So either LaRussa wasn't so serious about using Pujols out of position, or he didn't want to risk Pujols having to spend significant time at 2B if the game went extra innings.
