Barry Bonds blowing off the Home Run Derby in his home park is not playing well in Cow Hollow.

Bonds skipping the Home Run Derby in San Francisco is like Santa Claus blowing off the sleigh race at the North Pole Winter Olympics. "I'll compete in the gift wrapping," Claus tells reporters, "but at my age, 384, the sleigh thing just takes too much out of me. Besides, what if Rudolph pulls a groin?"

But Joe Morgan said it was okay if Bonds skipped the derby.

Honestly, the Giants brass get what they deserve with this guy. They've caved into him for years, so why complain?

They're all a bunch of tools.

Can anyone explain exactly why the All Star Game is being held in a National League park for the second consecutive year? Surely it can't have anything to do with Bonds' chase of the record, can it?

Bud just wants to showcase the new parks now. ( or for next year the old Yankee Stadium )

I would bet the ranch Washington gets it in 2009

I suppose at some point Tampa gets the game as well

The Trop isn't that bad when it has fans in it ( which is usually Boston and New York )

The All-Star Game might help them a little with season tickets.

I thought St. Louis was going to get the ASG in 2009.:dunno:

Has the ASG been in a full-time domed stadium in recent memory? I can't think of one. (I'm not counting Mil, Hou, or Seattle)

so much for the ranch St Louis in 2009 The Red Sox want it for 2012 when Fenway turns 100.

Because there are two more NL teams than AL teams, at some point two consecutive All Star games have to be played in NL parks. In a 30-year cycle, in which everyone gets to host once, you have to have two times when NL teams host consecutive games.

Here's a scenario of who gets to - and who ought to - host the next 30:
2008: Yankees
2009: Cardinals
obviously everything beyond here is conjecture...
2010: Royals (hosted in 73)
2011: Nats (Montreal hosted in 82; Washington in 69)
2012: Twins (have a new park; hosted in 85)
2013: Mets (have a new park; hosted in 64)
2014: A's (have a new park; hosted in 87)
2015: Dodgers (haven't hosted since 1980)
2016: D-Rays (never hosted)
2017: Reds (have a newer park; hosted in 88)
2018: Angels (hosted in 89)
2019: Diamondbacks (never hosted)
2020: Cubs (30 years since 1990)
2021: Blue Jays (30 years since 91)
2022: Padres (30 years since 92)
2023: Orioles (30 years since 93)
2024: Marlins (never hosted)
2025: Rangers (30 years since 95)
2026: Phillies (newer park is overdue, 30 years since 96)
2027: Indians
2028: Rockies
2029: Red Sox
2030: Braves
2031: Mariners
2032: Brewers
2033: White Sox (100th anniversary of 1st ASG)
2034: Astros
2035: Tigers
2036: Pirates
2037: Giants

They just had it in 1999! :?:

True but a new ownership group. Selig wants them to give up a home date to open in Japan in 08. 2012 would be the payback.

On the verge of breaking the all-time home run record, the All-Star game in your own home park and you don't participate in the home run hitting contest??

Unbelievable.

That's because Barry invited ESPN Baseball announcer Joe Morgan to some All Star Party with Jay-zee according to Joe on the baseball game last night.
