Im praying the Sox sign M.B. but with our history in keeping fan favorites the odds are not good. Since Ive been a fan we have traded Minnie Minoso, Nellie Fox, Luis Aparicio, Billy Pierce, Gary Peters ,Joel Horlen Tommy John, Harold Baines, Aaron Rowand, Mags, Carlos Lee and Harry Carray. Im sure I left out a few. I left out Sosa on purpose. Kenny please sign Mark.

Minoso gained Early Wynn and Al Smith, two key members of the 1959. I don't remember Harold Baines playing for the Sox in a World Series. Lee and Ordonez left after 2004.

Popular players are good players and you can't get trade utility guys for good players or prospects.

I agree 100%, this isnt about money since that part is already been OKd. If they let him go I dont want any crying from KW about attendance. We filled ball park for him last couple years after his crying about small crowds.

Harry Carray

I agree with your post except for including the mumbling drunk above. By the 7th inning, he barely knew which team he was broadcasting for, and it got worse once he went north.

It would be a major mistake to let Buehrle go. Maybe he got himself a measure of protection by publicly announcing no matter who he was traded to he wasn't signing. He is going to test free agency if he's traded before the season ends. That ought to cut the teams willing to trade for him WAY down.

I dont think Harry was quite that bad when he was with the Sox. One thing is for sure, him going to the northside and the Sox going on pay TV(sportsvision) made this a Cub town.

I think in Harry C. time things were looked at differently, he was mainly a radio man and his drinking could be overlooked, I ve heard stories about Bob Elson and his trips to McCuddys during games and coming back sloshed, he also kept a bottle in annoucers booth to have a little touch during the game. I did lose respect for Harry when he went north. As for the way Sox owners try to make the players look bad when they get rid of them they never had any class--Maggs-Fisk--Ventura--even Big Frank was constantly arguing with them. If they dump Mark B. I ll always be a Sox fan (60+) years but I ll never spend a cent until they get KW completely out of there organization. I ll watch on TV and if Harrelson starts talking MB down and how KW did the right thing, its mute and put on radio. About time the ownership did something for the fans.

I'll always be a Sox fan, as well. I'm 55 and have always been a Sox fan. I just get angry when the organization does stuff like what they're doing with MB. It's a shame. NO player is safe in an organization with no loyalty like this one. If MB is dealt, they ought to throw in KW. He can continue his lies somewhere else.

BTW, 60481, I'm 60408. Hey, neighbor!

Never forget how they unceremoniously dumped Carlton Fisk while on a road trip after the last game of the home stand was?

You guessed it. Carlton Fisk apprecitation Day.

The Sox have sure let some good ones get away over the years. Not saying that sometimes trading a popular player can be bad, but you have to be careful in situations like this. Not only is MB a good pitcher, but he is a leader of this team.

BTW...grew up in Coal City...some great sports rivalries between Coal City-Wilmington-Braidwood.

:?: You do realize trades are a part of the game right? The reason these men were fan favorites was because of their talent and/or the way they played the game,so naturally there are many teams that were interested in their services as well. Where's the outrage over the trades of players such as Mike Robertson,Matt Merullo or Fran Mullins? :D:

I can remember in the 40s the Sox traded Eddie Lopat to Yankees for AAron Robinson and Bill Wight, everybody thought they were crazy, next year they traded Robinson to Tigers for Billy Pierce so I would guess we didnt do to bad.
